Recruiting news around Illinois

Several players have named their schools recently:

Northern Illinois got on the board early when the Huskies landed a pair of ranked prospects: SS/RHP Brad Wood (St. Laurence HS) and 3B Joe Boyle (Benet Academy HS). Wood, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound two-way talent, is currently ranked No. 55 in Illinois’ 2014 class. The versatile Wood has been an impact performer at St. Laurence since his sophomore year, when he started in centerfield. Last spring, Wood moved to shortstop.

Boyle, a 6-foot, 180-pound 3B, is currently ranked No. 84 in Illinois. Boyle impressed at the PBR Top Prospect Showcase in June, when he emerged as one of the best infield prospects at the event.

Heartland CC also landed two ranked prospects when it received commitments from SS Collin Ridout (Johnsburg HS) and 1B/3B Reed Rogers (Normal West HS). Ridout, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound left-handed hitting middle infielder, is currently ranked No. 60 in Illinois’ 2014 class. Rogers, ranked No. 110 in Illinois, is a physical 6-foot-4, 225-pound right-handed hitting power bat.

Speaking of Heartland CC, shortly after 2013 RHP Yianni Pavlopoulos committed to the Hawks, the hard-throwing 6-foot-1, 195-pounder from Providence Catholic HS changed his mind and is now heading to Ohio State.
