Senior Games Mississippi Valley: Outfield Analysis

The 2016 Senior Games are in the books, we’ve analyzed the first installment which took place at Kapco Park in Mequon, WI and today we start to roll out a series of positional analysis from Copeland Park in La Crosse, WI.

Starting with the outfielders, here’s a look at our reports on the top outfield prospects in attendance.

Top Outfield Prospects

1. Eric Modaff, OF, Oregon, 2017
5-foot-8, 175-pound left/left outfielder, short stockier build, has present strength. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, reverse toe tap trigger, good balance through contact, showed athletic and strong hands. Above average bat speed, pull side approach, flashed pop to pull side. 90 mph exit velocity from the tee. Singled and walked in game play. Possible top of the lineup type bat, 4.23 runner down the line and 7.05 in the 60. Defensively moved well in the outfield, active feet, played through the baseball. Short over the top arm action, 81 mph from the outfield.

2. Tyler Hafeman, OF, Hortonville, 2017
6-foot, 165-pound outfielder, wiry strength, projectable frame. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, leg kick trigger, average balance. Loose hands, swings a live bat, raw hitter, off front foot at times. 79 mph exit velocity from the tee. Flashed pull side pop, flew out to left twice in game. Defensively arm action is long, over the top slot, 79 mph from the outfield. Deliberate actions through the baseball, 7.27 runner in the 60.

3. Bradley Hansen, OF, Union Grove, 2017
5-foot-10, 160-pound left-handed hitting outfielder. Strong bat, slightly open stance, short stride, good balance. Pull side approach, fast bat, good approach, disciplined and quiet. 83 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed good outfield actions. Arm plays loose and over the top, 78 mph. 7.59 runner in the 60, 4.37 down the line.

4. Jim Callahan, OF, Ashwaubenon, 2017
5-foot-11, 170-pound outfielder. Right-handed hitter, slightly open setup, leg lift stride. Path looks to the lift the baseball, 84 mph exit velocity from the tee. Had an RBI double in game play. Defensively arm works over the top, average arm strength, 80 mph. Worked to play through the ball in stride. 7.15 runner in the 60.

5. Benjamin Battley, OF, Zion Benton (IL), 2017
5-foot-10, 170-pound outfielder, carries present strength. Right-handed hitter, slightly open stance, short stride, pre-pitch rhythm, average balance. Aggressive swinger, quick twitch hands led to bat speed, line drive type hitter, barrel can stay in the zone longer. 80 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively moves with short quick steps, played though the baseball. 7.08 runner in the 60. Arm action is short and over the top, 71 mph.

Tommy Hill, OF, Madison West, 2017
5-foot-11, 185-pound outfielder, athletic shaped body. Right-handed hitter, pigeon toed setup, slight leg lift trigger, good balance through contact. Athletic hitter, hands are loose, line drive middle of the field approach. Path is short with bat speed, 90 mph exit velocity from the tee. Ran a 7.42 in the 60.

Jack Kraemer, OF/RHP, Oconomowoc, 2017
5-foot-9, 142-pound two way player. Right-handed hitter, hits from a slightly taller and open stance, short stride. Spray contact in BP, path has length and works uphill. 77 mph exit velocity from the tee. Singled in game play. Defensively arm played at 73 mph from the outfield, long high ¾ slot. Ran the 60 at 7.44, 4.8 down the line. On the mound arm action is long, high ¾ slot, occasionally gets lower to a ¾ slot. Fastball touched 76 mph sat mostly 72-73 mph. Curveball is 58-59 mph. Changeup worked at 65-68 mph.

Luke Posig, OF, Oak Creek, 2017
5-foot-9, 157 -pound outfielder, average balance. Left-handed hitter, open stance, short stride, average balance. Loose hands, line drive pull side type hitter, average bat speed. 78 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is long, high ¾ slot, average arm strength. 78 mph from the outfield.

Brandon Wedwick, OF, Sauk Prairie, 2017
6-foot-1, 180-pound outfielder. Left-handed hitter, balanced stance, minimal stride, weight shift loading action. Bat path works uphill, 72 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is long, high ¾ slot, 70 mph arm strength. Methodical footwork in the outfield. 7.95 runner in the 60.

Bryce Wesling, LHP/OF, New Berlin Eisenhower, 2017
6-foot-1, 170-pound left-handed throwing, right-handed hitting two-way player, lean lanky frame, projects best on the mound. Confident mound presence. Delivery repeats slightly across his body, tall and fall type. Arm action is long and loose, ¾ slot. Fastball sat 79-80 mph, showed ability to control the zone with arm side run. Slider sweeps on 2/8 plane, showed sharp action, swing and miss out pitch that has ability to drop for strikes to both lefties and righties. Struck out two in one inning of work. Right-handed hitter, open setup, short stride, path has length, level. 77 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm played similarly in the outfield, 81 mph. Average actions playing through the baseball. 7.38 runner in the 60.

Jordan Williams, OF, Fennimore, 2017
5-foot-10, 165-pound outfielder, lean strength. Right-handed hitter, open stance, leg kick trigger. Aggressive swinger, showed bat speed, 87 mph exit velocity from the tee. Uphill finish, lifts the baseball. Defensively arm is accurate, high ¾ slot, short action, 82 mph. Actions played through the baseball in stride, 7.32 runner in the 60.
