Several highly ranked prospects pick their schools

By Sean Duncan

It was a busy weekend of recruiting, as several highly ranked prospects picked their schools. A look at who’s going where:

Jake Ring, an athletic left-handed hitting OF from Grant HS, has committed to Missouri. Ranked No. 19 in Illinois’ Class of 2013, Ring earned PBR third-team All-State honors after leading Grant to a third-place finish in Class 4A. The 6-foot Ring recently ran a 6.61 60 at the PBR Top Prospect Showcase.

Ring joins Prairie Ridge OF Jordan Getzelman in Missouri’s recruiting class. Getzelman, ranked No. 3 overall, earned second team all-state honors. Ring and Getzelman’s commitment is reminiscent of 2010, when Missouri landed a pair of Illinois All-State outfielders, Blake Brown (Normal West HS) and Dane Opel (Edwardsville HS).

Nick Kowalczuk, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound 1B from Oak Park-River Forest HS, has committed to the University of Michigan. Ranked No. 14 in Illinois’ Class of 2013, Kowalczuk is one of the best right-handed hitters in Illinois. He played a critical role in Oak Park’s Class 4A state championship, finishing with 34 RBI and 40 hits.

Joe Hoscheit, a physical OF from St. Charles East HS, has committed to Northwestern University. The 6-foot, 195-pound Hoscheit batted .447 with 14 doubles, 28 RBI and 10 stolen bases as a junior. Hoscheit was a standout performer in the Prep Baseball Report Midwest Future Games last August.

Jacob Haberer, an athletic RHP/INF from Highland HS, has committed to Eastern Illinois. The 6-foot-2 Haberer recently impressed at a PBR event with his 85-87 mph fastball and sharp breaking ball. He also ran a 6.86 60 at the event.

Nick Lopez, a left-handed hitting SS from Naperville Central HS, has committed to Creighton. Lopez is one of the most impressive defensive middle infielders in the Class of 2013.

Devin Williams, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound INF/RHP from Providence Catholic HS, has committed to Evansville.

Jace Anderson, a RHP from Rock Falls HS, has committed to Ashford University in Iowa.
