Several ranked prospects name their schools

Several highly ranked prospects have named their schools recently. A look at who’s going a where:

+ Brian Hobbie, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound RHP from Glenwood HS, has committed to Indiana University. Ranked No. 17 in Illinois’ 2014 class and 69 overall, Hobbie was one of the top prospects at the PBR Preseason All-State Showcase in February. He also showed extremely well at the Midwest Future Games last August.

+ Sean Leland, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound RHP from Sandburg HS, has committed to Louisville. Ranked No. 22 in Illinois’ 2014 class and 84 overall, Leland has had a meteoric rise this summer. At the PBR Top Prospect Showcase in June, Leland was a clear standout, as he sat 87-89 with his fastball to go along with a 78-80 mph slider and solid changeup. Leland’s Sandburg teammate, RHP Bryan Pall, is committed to Michigan.

+ Luke Morgan, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound RHP/3B from Lincoln-Way West HS, has committed to South Alabama. Ranked No. 28 in Illinois’ 2014 class and 117 overall, Morgan possesses true two-way abilities. At the Preseason All-State Showcase in February, Morgan touched 90 on the mound, and showed excellent three-pitch feel.

+ Gabe Jelley, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound RHP from Zeigler-Royalton HS, has committed to John A. Logan JC. Ranked No. 31 in Illinois’ 2014 class and 134 overall, Jelley sat 86-88 mph at the PBR Preseason All-State Showcase in February, and has reportedly been in the low-90s this summer.

+ TJ Case, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound RHP from Willowbrook HS, has committed to High Point University. Ranked No. 123 in Illinois’ 2014 class, Case showed well at the PBR Preseason All-State Showcase in February. His fastball ranged between 84-87 to go along with a 70-73 curveball.

+ Heartland CC landed a pair of transfers, both RHPs. Joe Ceja, a former standout at Ottawa Marquette HS, has left Louisville, and Pat Cashman (Plainfield North HS) has transferred from Benedictine.
