Sneak Peak at the Underclassmen Prospect Showcase

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director - Illinois

Yesterday’s Underclassmen Prospect Showcase saw some young talented athletes, some of which have burst onto the scene for the first time. The Underclassmen Prospect Showcase featured some of the best 2015 and 2016 graduates in the state. Here’s a sneak peak at what we saw on Sunday.

Brett Newberg (Moline HS, 2015) showed well both offensively, defensively, and on the mound. On the mound Newberg flashed a low 80’s fastball from the left side, complimented by a solid breaking ball at 71-72 mph. Offensively, he showed pop hitting from the right side. Another highlight on the mound was right hander Cal Jarret (Dixon HS, 2015) who featured an 84-85 mph fastball with some sink. Estaban Martinez (St. Rita, 2015) showed solid actions and athleticism at shortstop while showcasing his ability to hit from both sides of the plate. He also featured an 82-83 mph fastball on the mound. General McArthur (Crete Monee, 2015) also showed off a slick pair of hands at short along with a 78 mph arm across the diamond. In the outfield Eric Giltz (Wheaton Warrenville South, 2015) stood out showing aggressive outfield actions coupled with a 7.03 60 time.

Look for plenty more updates and complete recap on the Underclassmen Showcase, soon to follow.
