Staff Writer

It’s hard to find a prospect who put up a more incredible statistical for their high school team this spring than St. Laurence’s Matt McCormick. The West Virginia recruit aided the Vikings to another first place finish in the highly competitive Chicago Catholic League – Blue conference by hitting .510 and reaching base in over 65 percent of his plate appearances all while bopping nine homers, 17 doubles, and striking out just two times in the spring. For this, McCormick was named the PBR Illinois Player of the Year.

All of this success helped McCormick become one of the most sought after prospects on our site, coming in at No. 5. Within Illinois’ 2019 rankings, McCormick is the No. 1-ranked backstop and ranked No. 4 overall. His performance at the 2018 Tournament of Stars at the USA Baseball Training Complex in June stood out in particular. He showcased his offensive polish and it’s landed him on the prospect map leading him up to June’s draft.
