Uncommitted Spotlight: Q&A with Cade Sullivan

The 2019 Illinois high-school season has come to a close, and with that it’s time to look back on some of the state’s best performers this spring. Metea Valley 3B Cade Sullivan (2020) put together one of the strongest statistical seasons of the spring – it even earned him a roster spot on our First-Team All-State list. As talented as Sullivan is, he's still looking for a diamond to call home after his high school career wraps up in the fall of 2020.

Although he isn’t a believer in keeping track of his own statistics, Sullivan’s stats definitely don’t lie. He crushed anything and everything this spring – hitting .478 with 10 doubles, seven homers, and 30 RBIs. Sullivan has a physically advanced frame and stands at a very imposing 6-foot-4 – which allows him to create easy pop to go along with his advanced bat speed.

The PBR Illinois staff was lucky enough to catch up with Cade following his junior season to see where his mind was at going forward with the recruiting process. We also touched on some of his favorite prep memories up to this point in his career.

Scouting Report

4/23/19

Uncommitted junior, currently ranked No. 50 in the state. 6-foot-4, 215-pound, corner infielder, extra-large, physically-advanced, imposing frame. One of the more intriguing uncommitted right-handed bats in the class. Was a PBR Second Team All-State selection last spring as a sophomore. Advanced strength in barrel, creates easy pop, ball jumps off the barrel. Jumped on the first pitch he saw in his first at-bat and flew out deep to right-center field, into the teeth of the wind. Was intentionally walked in his second at-bat. Defensively, corner infielder, steady hands, arm plays across the diamond (85 mph at a previous event). Follow 2020 bat.

Our Q&A

PBR: What are you looking for in a college program to continue your baseball career at? Does location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

I am looking for a good education and culture that will help me develop both as a player and a student. Location or distance from home will not play a factor in the decision.

PBR: You're one of the top-ranked corner infielders in the state's 2020 class on our site. What do you think are your best traits as a ballplayer? What do you think you'll be able to bring to the table at the next level?

I think that my best traits are that I have a strong work ethic and that I am resilient. At the next level I will bring a power bat to the table.

PBR: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

I have wanted to play baseball in college since I started playing competitive travel ball at a very young age. I first realized that I might have that opportunity when I had success after getting called up to varsity as a freshmen. I got even more serious after being named to the all-state Team for Illinois as a sophomore.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Hitting a walk-off grand slam against Waubonsie Valley as a sophomore.

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? How so?

Jake Kuntzendorf was one of the better pitchers that I have faced. He has good velocity and movement on his pitches.
