Unsigned Senior Spotlight: LHP David Schurr

By Steve Nielsen

Today’s Player Spotlight is on unsigned senior David Schurr. Schurr is Class of 2013 graduate of Oswego East HS. After spending last year pitching alongside Auburn commit Matt Schultz, this year Schurr should be the leader of the staff as the left-handed pitcher looks to repeat on his All-Conference selection from a year ago. Now out of the shadows of the highly touted Schultz, Schurr should turn some heads this spring.

The 6-foot-3 left handed pitcher has long levers and a lot of room to grow. At 175-pounds Schurr is a very projectable pitcher that is already in the 82-84 mph range. Schurr’s best asset might be his ability to change speeds. Schurr is ahead of the curve in his ability to command three pitches; he shows a curveball at 64-67 and a changeup at 72-73. His good command is a product of his repeatable delivery that uses his long arms from a high ¾ slot, producing good extension through his fastball.  Schurr is a left-hander with a high ceiling and is only going to get better as his body matures.
