McHenry County College Scout Day: Takeaways

On Friday, August 28th, the Prep Baseball Illinois Staff traveled to Crystal Lake for the McHenry County College Scout Day. There are plenty of new faces for the Scouts, as well as a handful of quality returning players, and we will be highlighting the standouts from the day, below.

Today, we are taking a look at some of the day’s top performers, broken down by each program, with scouting reports and videos, below.

Position Players

+ RS SO. OF Samuel Chapman (Woodstock) stood out at the event, returning back to MCC after missing his sophomore season due to injury. Chapman impressed throughout the event, getting the day started with a 6.96 60-yard dash. During his round of BP, the left-handed bat worked on the barrel throughout, peaking at 98.5 EV with an average of 89 mph with a max distance of 337’, worked line drives to the gaps during his round. Defensively, a bouncy defender with athletic actions, threw an event best 94 mph OF velocity. Chapman looks to make an impact in his first full season with the Scots. One to follow heading into the 2027 season.

+ SO. OF Brock Iverson (Cary-Grove) put together one of the most well-rounded performances of the event. Displaying athleticism throughout with a physical 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame. Iverson was a standout for the Scots in the 2026 season as a freshman, playing in 35 games, recording over 100 ABs, slashing .305/.439/.476 with seven stolen bases. At the Scout Day, the RHH recorded the fourth best 60-time of the event at 6.81 with a max exit velocity of 103.9 mph, peppering line drives to the gaps throughput. There is present bat speed for the sophomore as he recorded the second best average bat speed of the event at 76.2 mph. Defensively, sound defender with athletic actions, easy mover. One to keep an eye on for the Scots.

+ RS FR. INF Aadden Guerrero (St. Laurence) came out a winner from the Scout Day, put all sorts of athleticism on display throughout the day. The RHH missed his freshman season due to injury but looks to make an impact this spring. Guerrero had the second best 60-time of the event at 6.66 and tied for fourth on the INF velocity leaderboard at 86 mph. Sure handed defender with range to both sides. At the plate, reached 94.3 mph EV with an average of 86 mph and a max distance of 328’. Averaged 68.6 mph bat speed while working a flat path with a gap-to-gap approach. The RHH looks to have an impact for the Scots this season, one to follow.

+ FR. INF Zack Maduzia (St. Francis) was arguably the biggest winner from the event after putting together one of the loudest performances of the day. The RHH led the event in multiple different categories including 60-yard dash (6.52) and INF velocity (91 mph). Maduzia recorded the second best max exit velocity at 104.1 mph and second best average exit velocity at 95.7 mph. Displayed sound actions on the infield while showing range to both sides. A transfer looking to have a big impact in the Scots lineup in the 2027 spring.

+ SO. 3B Jacob Gross (LaSalle Peru) returns to the Scots following a freshman campaign in which he achieved an on base percentage of .423 in 41 plate appearances. With a strong and athletic 6-foot, 191-pound frame, Gross achieved the highest exit velocity of the event at 106.3 mph and was all over the barrel, averaging 98 mph off the bat throughout the round with an 80 mph avg bat speed. Athletic mover at third as well, achieving an infield velocity of 85 mph. Big name to keep an eye on as he looks to take on a bigger role this season for the Scots.

+ RS SO. C Brett Goggins (Greenfield, WI) transfers in for the Scots with the tools to make an immediate impact. A simple operation at the plate produced a peak exit velocity of 98.6 mph and an average exit velocity of 88 mph. Strong hands and a quick transfer produced a peak pop time of 2.06 with an 80 mph catcher velocity. Athleticism shows on both sides of the ball as a 6.74 runner to pair. Name to keep an eye on as a new addition to the Scots roster.

+ SO. C PJ Hamel (Arrowhead, WI) returns for the Scots following a freshman campaign in which he hit .352 with 18 HR and 53 RBI en route to First Team All-Region IV honors. Boasting a physical 6-foot-5, 220-pound frame, Hamel put up one of the loudest rounds of batting practice at the event, showcasing bat speed and consistent feel for the barrel, achieving a peak exit velocity of 101.5 mph and an average exit velocity of 90 mph. The tools were on display behind the plate as well, showcasing a strong arm up to 83 mph from the crouch and consistently quick transfers with a pop time range of 1.94-2.18.

+ FR. OF O’Neil Wright (Port Washington, WI) looks to be an impact freshman for the Scots this year, showcasing some of the top bat speed at the event, achieving a peak exit velocity of 100.3 mph and an average bat speed of 76 mph with feel to pull the ball in the air. Athleticism and strength are evident in the outfield out of a 5-foot-10, 200-pound frame. A 6.99 runner, athletic footwork and an 85 mph outfield velocity make Wright a more than serviceable defender in the outfield.

Pitchers

+ SO. RHP Michael Kirchoff (Marengo) toes the rubber at a physical 6-foot-2, 195-pounds. Kirchoff looks to make an impact for the Scots’ fresh off a season where he struck out 39 in 30.2 innings and picked up 2 wins and a save. High leg-kick into a controlled descent down the mound from a ¾ slot that generates arm speed with some effort. His fastball played 90-92 (avg. 90.8) mph with an average of 15.6” of IVB. He spun a curveball at 78-80 mph with gradual 1/7 shape. Slider was in the 81-83 mph range with sharp sweeping action while averaging 11.3” of horizontal movement; changeup really rounded out the arsenal well with heavy fading action and 15.3” of horizontal movement on average at 80-83 mph. Poised for a big sophomore campaign and warrants a close follow heading into the fall and summer seasons.

+ SO. RHP Sean Dooley (Palmyra-Eagle, WI) looks to make an impact for the Scots’ stepping on the mound at 6-foot-1, 185-pounds. The right-hander tossed 10 innings in the 2026 season, striking out 12. Dooley provided one of the louder looks on the day from a stretch-only look utilizing a belt high kick with a drop-drive lower half. It’s a long loose arm swing with some noticeable effort at footstrike generating plenty of arm speed and some funk to the delivery. Repeats well and competes around the zone. Fastball has heavy running life in the 91-92 mph range (92.3 max) and an average of 17.8” of horizontal movement. Showed feel for a curveball at 80-82 mph with sharp, 1/7 shape for strikes. The slider had sharp sweeping shape at 81-82 mph with an average of 2436 RPMs and -12.7” of sweep on average; changeup rounds out the arsenal at 85-86 mph with heavy fade (12.6” of HM). Dooley looks the part of an impact arm for the Scots’ and is a name to know heading into the fall and summer seasons.

+ SO. RHP Wilson Wemhoff (Hampshire) with one of the more polished looks on the bump for the Scots’. He's an athletic 5-foot-11, 210-pounds with strength throughout. Worked out of a stretch only operation with a belt-high kick that really repeats and competes around the zone. Showed feel for a 4-pitch mix with a fastball in the 90-93 mph range with easy life out of the hand and an average of 18” of IVB and feel to command it to both sides of the plate. Curveball really pairs well off the high carry fastball with sharp 1/7 shape around 77 mph. The slider has room for upside in the 78-81 mph range with gradual break and some depth. Changeup was a quality offering at 83-85 mph with heavy fade at times (15.3” avg HM). Wemhoff looks to take on a big role for the Scots’ after a spring where he tallied 35.1 innings of work while punching out 47 batters last spring. Don’t be surprised if his stuff ticks up heading into the spring season. N2K.

+ SO. LHP Riley Golden (Prairie Ridge) with one of the most intriguing looks on the day. It’s an athletic 5-foot-10, 155-pound frame with a deceptive look from the left side. Belt-high leg kick with a compact arm action from a low ¾ slot (3.5’ release height) with little effort. Fastball played in the 86-88 mph range with heavy arm-side run while averaging 18.2” of horizontal movement. The slider had true sweeper shape and really played in the 75-78 mph range that takes a sharp right turn with an average of 13” of horizontal movement with a changeup to pair at 78-79 mph that kills spin (1063 RPMs avg). Be on the lookout for Golden as he looks to have an impact role with the Scots’ after transferring in from the Division I level.

+ SO.RHP Ethan Faith (Jacobs) did not disappoint in his turn on the hill with arguably the loudest showing of the day. It’s a long-loose levered 6-foot-3, 215-pound frame with room to add. High leg-kick while staying stacked through his backside down the mound that winds up a full arm swing into a whippy ¾ slot with some noticeable effort. Fastball plays up in the zone in the 89-94 mph range while setting an event best 95.5 mph and averaging 14” of IVB. Slider tunnels well with a shorter-sharp break while throwing it for strikes in the 77-79 mph range and a changeup to round out the arsenal at 83-84 mph with 12.7” of horizontal movement. Faith looks to garner some attention heading into the fall and summer circuits. Raw potential with chance for more jumps as he continues to fill out the frame. N2K

+ SO. LHP Carter Kelly (Crystal Lake Central) is another returner for the Scots’ looking to make an impact in a freshman campaign where he tallied 24 strikeouts in 23.1 innings pitched. Stands at an athletic 5-foot-10, 182-pounds. It’s a smooth repeatable operation from the left-side with plenty of athleticism throughout. Controls his center of mass down the slope into a compact, half arm swing into a ¾ slot. Showed a feel for spin and pounded the zone with his mix with the fastball playing 83-84 mph with heavy arm side run (17.5” avg HM, 2226+ RPM) and tunneling a slider at 73-75 mph with shorter break and bite at times (2407 RPM avg.). Changeup lived at 78-79 mph with heavy fade (16.1” of horizontal movement). Still room for jumps as he continues to get more physical.

+ FR. RHP Johnny Geisser (Crystal Lake Central) looks the part of an impact arm for the Scots’. It’s a twitchy 6-foot, 160-pound frame with plenty of room to add. Really athletic look on the mound with repeatability to the operation. Stays tall down the slope and really sequences his moving parts well into a compact half arm circle from a ¾ slot and some noticeable effort to it. Sports a lively 5-pitch mix with the fastball playing at 87-88 mph (T88.4 mph) with heavy ASR (15.1” HM on avg) while tunneling a pair of breaking balls with the first of which being a curveball that averaged 72 mph with gradual 1/7 shape that was 12/6 at times and a slider with bite at 75-76 mph and an average of 15.9” of horizontal movement. Turned over a changeup at 77-83 mph with heavy fade (11” HM avg) and mixed in a cutter at 81 mph. Jumps are inevitable as he fills out the frame.

+ FR. RHP Collin Burns (Morton) is a new face for the Scots’ looking to eat up some innings this year. The projectable right-hander toes the rubber at 6-foot-2, 195-pounds. He sports an athletic, stretch-only delivery with a compact half arm swing from a ¾ slot. A strike thrower that repeats and competes in the zone with his 3-pitch mix. Fastball sat 87-88 with feel for it while spinning a curveball at 74-75 mph with sharp 1/7 shape. He rounded out his arsenal showing some feel to turn over a changeup with heavy arm side run (14.5” HM avg.) in the 81-83 mph range. Jumps are likely as he continues to add strength to the frame.

+ FR. RHP Donovan Hatch (Edgerton, WI) is another newcomer for the Scots’ looking to make an impact during his freshman campaign. 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame works down hill with clear intent to the operation and a clean half arm swing into a high ¾ slot with some polish. Drop/drive lower half and sequences his moving parts well to generate some noticeable arm speed. Fastball carries at 85-86 mph (18” avg IVB) while spinning a slider at 74-77 mph with tight, short break and turning over a changeup that killed vertical break (5.1” IVB). Cutter at 80-81 mph with a tight, right turn really rounds out the arsenal. Looks the part on the mound with plenty of room to add to the frame.

+ FR. RHP Kaden Norman (Cary-Grove) with some of the biggest spin metrics on the day. High waisted 6-foot-3, 220-pound frame. Efficient mover that controls his move downhill well with a compact, half arm swing into a whippy ¾ slot that supplies some deception at release. Fastball plays with ASR to the tune of 6.1 feet of extension on average in the 85-86 mph range and 2327 RPMs on average. Slider was a true sweeper at 74-76 mph with sharp break and 2859 RPMs (highest in the event) with 16.6” of sweep on average. Showed feel to turn over a changeup with heavy fade (12.2” HM on avg) at 77-80 mph and a cutter at 78-81 mph to complete his arsenal. Big-spin from the Cary Grove product that is primed to show well during the upcoming fall and summer campaigns.

+ SO. RHP Louis Siriano (Huntley) is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound athlete who is a familiar face for the Scots’ in a freshman campaign where he punched out 19 in 17.2 innings pitched. It’s a quality 3-pitch mix with a long loose arm swing and intent to the operation from a ¾ slot. Fastball carries with 16.1” of IVB on average in the 85-86 mph range topping at 87. Slider tunnels well in the 71-73 mph range with sharp action and 13” of horizontal movement on average. Changeup 73-77 mph with fade. Repeats and competes around the zone.
