Advanced Baseball Academy Scout Day: Catcher's Analysis

On December 17, Prep Baseball Report - Kansas held the Advanced Baseball Academy Scout Day.  Over forty players attended the event in the 2021 to 2019 classes. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard.

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the catchers from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

Catchers

Casey Arscott OF / C / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2021

Arscott is a 5-foot-11 160-pound right—handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He had an exit velocity of 70 mph and a 4.91 home to first. Behind the plate, has a high three quarter arm slot, 66 mph positional velocity, balanced feet in set up, clean exchange.  At the plate, balanced stance with short stride, little hand movement in load, level path through the zone.

Logan Baer C / 3B / Blue Valley West, KS / 2020

Baer is a 5-foot-10 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.60 home to first and has an 86 mph exit velocity.  Behind the plate, 71 mph positional velocity, short over the top release, thin set up in base, clean exchange, at the plate, starts with an opens stance, smooth load into back leg, no waisted movement in hands, balanced swing, loose hands with quick bat speed. 

Jared Dooley C / OF / Blue Valley West, KS / 2019

Dooley is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.62 home to first and has an 88 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, short in line stride, level path, quick bat speed, middle to pull side contact.  Behind the plate, thin set up in base, short over the top release, feet and hands work together on time, 73 mph positional velocity.

Austin Fisher C / 3B / Tonganoxie , KS / 2019

Fisher is a 6-foot 215-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.69 home to first and has a 90 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, pull approach, smooth pre swing rhythm, short in line stride, attacks ball, quick bat.  Behind the plate, thin stance, over the top release, quick exchange, 72 mph positional velocity.

Brady Kaplan C / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2021

Kaplan is a 5-foot-8 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 5.01 home to first and has a 71 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts with wide stance, weight shift to load in back side, minimal stride and hand movement, level path, gap to gap approach.  Behind the plate, over the top release, 63 mph positional velocity, fluid footwork with fluid transfer, staggered set up to receive.

Zaden Marroquin C / SS / Olathe East , KS / 2021

Marroquin is a 5-foot-8 145-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.60 home to first and has a 72 mph exit velocity. At the plate, thin stance, short in line stride, slightly closed with lift to bat path, balanced swing, mostly middle to pull side contact.  Behind the plate, 66 mph positional velocity, 66 mph positional velocity, wide base in set up, over the top release, gains momentum with feet to throw. 

Brady Stevenson C / OF / Spring Hill , KS / 2020

Stevenson is a 6-foot 160-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.65 home to first and has an 85 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, no waisted movement, short stride, quick bat speed, level hands, stays balanced throughout swing, loose hands.  Behind the plate, 70 mph positional velocity, staggered and wide base, short high three quarters arm slot, feet create momentum on time with exchange.

Aidan Thompson C / Olathe North, KS / 2020

Thompson is a 5-foot-11 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.65 home to first and has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, controlled load into back side, closes off during stride, level path, aggressive bat speed, middle to pull contact, stays balanced.  Behind the plate, 75 mph positional velocity, sits low with thin stance, quick catch and throw, over the top release, short first step, quick actions.
