Between the Lines Scout Day: Catchers Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Kansas held the Between the Lines Scout Day at The BTL Baseball Facility in Shawnee, Kansas.  Nearly twenty-five players participated in the 2022 to 2019 classes from around the area.

Player profiles have been updated with running times and velocities along with a video of their performance.

Players can now updated their profiles with a 
ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on ScoutPlus.

Here is a closer look at the catchers from the event.


Catchers

Steven Azzaro C / OF / St James Academy, KS / 2021

Azzaro is a 6-foot-1 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.62 home to first and has a 77 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts with weight in back side, toe tap to load, short in line stride, smooth swing the no wasted movements, level path with high finish, controlled, middle to pull side contact.  Behind the plate, balanced stance with some pre-pitch rhythm in hands, weight shift to back side with some hand load, in line stride, middle to opposite field line drives during hitting evals.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.15 and 2.31-seconds, 72 mph positional velocity, square set up in base, clean exchange, over the top arm slot, controlled actions, mostly accurate throws. Some with carry to the bag.

Dakota Duran C / 2B / Shawnee Mission West, KS / 2021

Duran is a 5-foot-9 145-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.75 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load with accelerated hands, simple and repeatable, quick bat speed, gap to gap line drives, level bat path.  Behind the plate, 2.03 to 2.13-second pop times, 73 mph positional velocity, over the top release, exchange and footwork on time together, clean catch and throw, mostly accurate throws to the bag.

Hayden Dyer C / 3B / Gardner Edgerton, KS / 2021

Dyer is a 6-foot 170-pound right-handed hitting hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.41 home to first and has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in open stance, controlled load to back side with toe tap, short in line stride, level path, middle to pull side line drives.  Behind the plate, 1.95 to 2.09-second pop times, 79 mph positional velocity, throws with high three quarters arm slot, thin set up in base, quick catch and throw, quick footwork, mostly accurate throws.

Mikolas Honomichl C / 2B / De Soto, KS / 2021

Honomichl is a 6-foot 162-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.72 home to first and has an 81 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in open stance, loads into back side with weight shift, slides stride foot back then to in line stride, some hand movement, stays balanced during swing, middle to pull side line drives.  Behind the plate, 2.15 to 2.25-second pop times, 69 mph positional velocity, short over the top arm slot, thin set up, slightly staggered, sit wider to block, mostly accurate throws and most with carry to the bag.
