Prep Baseball Report Missouri/Kansas held the MOKAN Fall Trials on Saturday, September 28 at the Urban Youth Academy in Kansas City, Missouri.  Over forty players from region participated.

Player profiles have been updated with running times and velocities along with a video of their performance. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a 
ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on ScoutPlus.

Here is a closer look at the Catchers from the event, listed in alphabetical order.



Catchers

Ty Campbell C / RHP / Blue Springs South, MO / 2021

Campbell is a slender and projectable 6-foot-2, 175-pound, left-handed hitting catcher and right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. At the event, he ran a 7.65 second 60 and 5.14 home-to-first. During hitting evaluations, Campbell posted and exit velocity of 81 mph, relaxed stance with slightly closed off stride, quick hands, showed ability handle inside pitch, produced hard pull contact during batting practice, uphill finish with hands, looks to lift the baseball. Behind the plate, athletic set up, quick arm action, clean transfers, strong arm with carry on throws, positional velo of 74 mph with accurate throws, 2.07-2.15 pop times.

Dakota Duran C / 2B / Shawnee Mission West, KS / 2021

Duran shows a stocky build at 5-foot-9, 150 pounds, and is a right-handed hitting catcher and middle infielder in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the event, Duran ran a 7.63 second 60 and a 4.97 home-to-first. At the plate, posted an exit velocity of 89 mph, starts in an upright posture, quiet load, in line stride quick hands, repeats swing, produced hard gap-to-gap contact during batting practice. Behind the plate, fluid footwork, momentum towards target, clean arm action, over the top release, positional velo of 70 mph, mostly accurate throws, pop times between 2.22-2.36 seconds.

Jared Fulghem C / Lee's Summit West, MO / 2020

Fulghem is a lean and athletic 5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 7.37 second 60 and a 4.62 home-to-first. At plate, 85 mph exit velocity, starts in an athletic posture, simple load, quiet hands, smooth and easy swing, minimal head movement, uphill path with barrel, middle to opposite field approach during batting practice. Behind the plate, Fulghem shows his athleticism, light on his feet, loose arm action, high three-quarter release, accurate throws to second base, positional velo of 74 mph, pop times between 2.11-2.28 seconds.

Donovan Horn C / 3B / Timberland , MO / 2021

Horn is a physical 6-foot, 219-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. At the event he ran a 7.83 60 and a 4.83 home-to-first. At the plate, Horn posted an exit velocity of 90 mph, starts open, simple weight shift load, in line stride, quick hands, level bat path, remains balanced throughout swing, produced hard contact and showed pull pop during batting practice. Defensively behind the plate, fluid footwork, quick transfer to release, strong arm with a positional velo of 78 mph, accurate throws with some carry, pop times between 1.94 and 2.19 seconds.

Dillon Houk C / 1B / Liberty North , MO / 2022

Houk shows off a large frame and big body at 6-foot-2, 200-pounds, and is a right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2022 class. At the event, Houk ran a 4.95 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 79 mph. During batting practice, starts in an upright posture, minimal load with hands, in line stride, leverages up front side as swing progresses, flat bat path, looked to pull the ball during round with some pop. Behind the plate, Houk shows some raw actions, fluid footwork, short clean arm action, clean transfers, momentum towards target, soft hands, positional velo of 70 mph, mostly accurate throws, pop times between 2.15-2.25 seconds.

Carter Jensen C / 1B / Park Hill , MO / 2021

Jensen is a strong and athletic 6-foot-1, 215-pound, left-handed hitting catching prospect in Missouri’s 2021 class. Committed to Louisiana State University. At the event, he ran a 7.28 60 and a 4.77 home-to-first. At plate, Jensen posted an event best exit velocity of 99 mph, reverse toe tap into load, loose and quick hands, flat bat path, aggressive and repeatable swing with some lift, ball jumps off barrel, showed plus pop to all fields during batting practice. Behind the plate, Jensen has soft hands, clean and quick arm action, moves well side-to-side, clean arm action with positional velo of 77 mph, mostly accurate throws with carry, 1.87-2.09 pop times.

Robbie Keener C / 3B / Abilene , KS / 2021

Keener is a strong and physical 5-foot-11, 205-pound, right-handed hitting catcher and corner infielder in Kansas’ 2021 class. Keener ran a 7.88 second 60 and 4.90 home-to-first. At the plate, posted an exit velocity of 85 mph, starts in an upright stance, quiet load with hands, leverages front side, showed fly ball contact with some pop during round. Behind the plate, athletic stance, momentum towards target, clean transfers, positional velo of 66 mph, mostly accurate throws, pop times between 2.16-2.28 seconds.

Joseph Lopez C / OF / Bishop Miege, KS / 2021

Lopez has is a slender 6-foot, 170-pound, left-handed hitting catcher and outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the event, Lopez ran a 7.27 second 60 and 4.70 home-to-first. At the plate, he posted an exit velocity of 79 mph, simple weight shift load, in line stride, quiet hands, repeatable swing, showed gap-to-gap and pull side contact during round. Behind the plate, Lopez has clean transfers, over the top quarter release, clean arm action, mostly accurate throws with a positional velo of 71 mph, pop times between 2.08-2.29 seconds. In the outfield, attacks the baseball, clean transfers, fluid footwork, positional velo of 77 mph with mostly accurate throws.

Jackson Magargee C / OF / Kingsville , MO / 2022

Magargee is a long and lean 6-foot, 165-pound, left-handed hitting catcher and outfielder in Missouri’s 2022 class. At the event, Magargee ran a 7.46 second 60 and 4.55 home-to-first. At the plate, posted an exit velocity of 86 mph, starts in a narrow stance with an upright posture, slightly closed off stride, loose hands, controls the barrel, showed and inside out approach at the plate during batting practice and produced hard contact. Behind the plate, athletic stance, fluid footwork, clean transfers, over the top release, momentum towards target, positional velo of 69 mph, mostly accurate throws with pop times between 2.21-2.25 seconds.

Sam McAleer C / OF / Blue Valley, KS / 2022

McAleer has a long limbs, wirey frame with room for growth as he fills out. At the event, he ran a 7.52 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 84 mph. During batting practice, athletic set up, simple weight shift load, in line stride, minimal head movement, remains balanced throughout, hard contact during round, ball jumps off barrel. Behind the plate, good actions, clean transfers, fluid footwork, soft hands, over the top release, clean arm action, pop times between 2.05-2.22 seconds, positional velo of 74 mph with accurate throws down to second base.

Grant Smith C / 3B / Lee's Summit , MO / 2021

Smith is a strong and physical 6-foot, 195-pound, left-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. He ran a 7.70 second 60 and a 4.41 home-to-first. At the plate, Smith posted an exit velocity 89 mph, starts with a slightly open posture, quiet load, quick hands, uphill path with his barrel, produced mostly flyball contact with plus pop during batting practice. Behind the plate, Smith starts in an athletic stance, clean transfers, longer arm action, high three-quarter release, clean arm action with carry to the baseball, positional velo of 73 mph, accurate throws, pop times between 2.00-2.19 seconds.

Ryan Ulm C / 1B / Fort Zumwalt West, MO / 2022

Ulm is a big bodied and strong 6-foo-3, 205-pound, right-handed hitting catcher and corner infielder in Missouri’s 2022 class. At the event, Ulm ran a 5.30 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 81 mph. At the plate, smooth load with hands, closed off stride, big swing, high finish with his hands, produced hard contact and looks to lift the baseball during batting practice. Behind the plate, fluid footwork, momentum towards target, longer arm action with a over the top release, clean transfers, overall fluid movements, positional velo of 70 mph, mostly accurate throws, pop times between 2.21-2.30 seconds.

JD Van Horn C / 3B / Ottawa, KS / 2020

Van Horn is a strong 5-foot-11, 180-pound, right-handed hitting catcher with a stocky build. At the event, he ran a 7.81 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 84 mph. At the plate, Van Horn, starts in an athletic position, rhythm to his load, loose hands, leverages front side, looks to lift the baseball, sprayed hard contact throughout batting practice. Behind the plate, clean transfers, clean arm action working from an over the top release, positional velo of 72 mph, mostly accurate throws, pop times between 2.11-2.33 seconds.
