Illinois jumped out to an early 4-2 lead after two innings, Missouri responded with four runs in the fourth inning and added four more in the six to claim a 10-5 win.
Max Hunter (Clayton) turned the tide for Missouri, working a masterful third and fourth inning, striking out the side in fourth. Hunter worked at 81-84 mph with his fastball and kept Illinois hitters off balance with a 64-65 mph change-up. Fellow southpaw, Jack Riney (Lafayette) was impressive as well, striking out three in two innings. Nick Wohlbold (Rock Bridge) worked a quick seventh inning, with one strikeout. He touched 83 mph and showed a curveball with depth at 71 mph. Starter, Zach Gibbs (Holt) was 85-87 mph with a sharp, downward breaking ball at 74-76 mph.
There were plenty of offensive highlights for Missouri in the win, led by Mark Vierling (CBC) and Davis Ernsdoff (St. James Academy, Kansas), who each had a two-hit game. Jess Davis (Kearney) was 1-for-3 with a single to center, two RBI and two runs scored. DJ Stewart also drove in two runs with a single in the fifth. In all, Missouri collected 10 runs on 10 hits.
Missouri will take on Select and Wisconsin in the final day of the Future Games.
