Missouri Future Games Recap: Day 3

On the final day of the Future Games, Missouri managed a tie with Team Select and earned a 5-1 victory over Wisconsin to go 2-0-1 on the weekend.
Missouri kept the bats hot against Team Select, in a 12-12 tie, collecting 12 hits and scoring 12 runs. Nick Wohlbold (Rock Bridge) drove two balls to centerfield for triples, driving in two runs and scoring two. Wohlbold also flashed the leather at third, making a spectacular play from his knees. Zach Gibbs (Holt) was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, three RBI and scored a pair of runs for Missouri. While, DJ Stewart (Westminster), Douglas Payne (Cuba), and Jaxon Passino (Rockwood Summit) also had multi-hit games. Coltyn Kessler (Rockwood Summit) also got in on the offensive action, smashing a triple to right-center.
Ty Buckner (Ladue) was masterful in two innings of work, facing seven batters, striking out two and allowing no hits with no walks.
Missouri relied on its pitching in a 5-1 win over Wisconsin. Jackson Rutledge (Rockwood Summit) started the game, touching 88, allowing one run on three hits. Jacob Hausman (CBC) and Weston Baker (SLUH) combined for four no-hit innings. Wohlbold (Rock Bridge) shut the door in the seventh for Missouri.
Stewart (Westminster) played a solid defensive game, showing his range and athleticism on several plays at shortstop. Davis Ernsdorff (St. James, KS) got in on the act as well, making one of the best plays of the Future Games, a diving catch in left-center gap to save a double.
Missouri blew the game open in the seventh inning, scoring four runs to earn the win. Mark Vierling (CBC) was 2-for-3 with a double and a triple and driving in two runs. Passino (Rockwood Summit) was 1-for-3 with a single, a triple, two RBI and two runs scored.
Over the three game stretch, Missouri scored 27 runs and pounded 29 hits. Led by Vierling's 5-for-8 performance, with two doubles, a triple, four RBI and two walks. Passino finished the weekend 5-for-10 with a pair of triples, two RBI, and two runs scored. Gibbs was 3-for-6, with a double, a pair of walks, four RBI and two runs scored. Wohlbold added a 2-for-7 performance with two triples, a pair of walks, scoring three runs, and driving in three.
