Advanced Baseball Academy Scout Day: Infield Analysis

On December 17, Prep Baseball Report - Kansas held the Advanced Baseball Academy Scout Day.  Over forty players attended the event in the 2021 to 2019 classes.  

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard.

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the infielders from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

Infielders

Michael Arscott LHP / 1B / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2021 Arscott is a 6-foot 200-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.88 home to first and has a 76 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in thin base, short stride, slight natural lift in swing path, showed feel for the barrell, flashed pull side pop, middle to pull side power.  On the infield, 69 mph positional velocity, over the top release, clean transfer, aggressive to the ball with fluid footwork, soft hands.

Logan Baer C / 3B / Blue Valley West, KS / 2020 Baer is a 5-foot-10 180-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.60 home to first and has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts with an opens stance, smooth load into back leg, no waisted movement in hands, balanced swing, loose hands with quick bat speed.  On the infield, 72 mph positoinal velocity, three-qaurters arm slot, quick glove-to-hand transfer, fields ball in position ready to throw, quick catch and throw, fluid footwork.

Michael Buckendahl 2B / 3B / Olathe South, KS / 2021 Buckendahl is a 5-foot-10 160-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.66 home to first and has a 74 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts in athletic position, smooth load to back side, minimal stride, loose hands, level path, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, 70 mph positional velo, over the top release, feet are aggressive to the ball, clean transfers, quick catch and throw.

Thomas Burns SS / 2B / Blue Valley West, KS / 2020 Burns is a 5-foot-9 140-pound swiching hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.72 home to first and has a 79 mph exit velo from the right side and a 78 mph exit velo from the left side. At the plate, starts with open and wide base from left side and more square on right side, pre-loaded in back leg from both sides of the plate, hands control the bat, level path through the zone, gap to gap approach on both side.  On the infield, 72 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, feet create momentum through the catch, exchange on time with footwork, clean exchange.

Bailey Carlson SS / 3B / Olathe North, KS / 2021 Carlson is a 5-foot-7 130-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.22 home to first and has a 73 mph exit velocity. At the plate, simple and repeatable swing, balanced stance, miminal load, short stride, quick rhythm, level path, short to contact, middle line drives.  On the infield, 73 mph positional velocity, three quarters arm slot, fields ball out front, clean exchange, gains ground after catch.

Ian Deghand 2B / OF / Gardner Edgerton, KS / 2020 Deghand is a 5-foot-7 135-pound right-handed hitting second baseman  in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.64 home to first and has a 72 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, minimal hand load, short stride, fluid pre swing rhythm, hands control the bat through the zone, middle approach. On the infield, 72 mph positional velocity, high three quarters release, quick catch and throw, fluid footwork throug the catch, hand work on time with feet, fluid actions.

Anthony DeMarino SS / 2B / Blue Valley West, KS / 2021 DeMarino is a 5-foot-7 122-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.95 home to first and has a 70 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth load in lower half, no wasted moves in hands, short in-line stride, level path, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, 67 mph positional velocity, quick feet and soft hands, clean exchange, over high three quarters release, aggressive to the ball.

Vincent Gardner 3B / RHP / St. Pius X, MO / 2019 Gardner is a 5-foot-8 200-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.75 home to first and has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, reverse toe tap, in line stride, minimal hand load, hands control the barrel, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, 73 mph postional velocity, over the top release, works through the ball with fluid footwork, creates momentum to throw, clean exchange out front.

Ethan George RHP / 3B / Olathe North, KS / 2021 George is a lean 5-foot-10 165-pound left-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.89 home to first and has a 74 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, minimal load, no wasted movement in hands, in line stride, body stays under control during siwng, level bat path, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, 68 mph positonal velocity, over the top release, gain ground after the catch, fields ball out front with clean transfers and fluid footwork.

Evan George RHP / 3B / Olathe South, KS / 2019 George is a strong 5-foot-9 160-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.33 home to first and has an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, loads against a strong back leg, in line stride, aggressive bat speed, pull side power, quick bat speed.  On the infield, 72 mph positional velocity, over the top release, creates momentum after the catch, quick to the ball, clean exchange, works though the catch.

Caleb Hoopes 1B / OF / Blue Valley , KS / 2020 Hoopes is a 6-foot-2 160-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.57 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall and relaxed set up, hands walk away from stride, stays square to stride, loose hands, quick bat speed, gap to gap line drives.  On the infield, 62 mph positional velocity at 1B, three quarters arm slot, acitve feet creating momentum to throw, athletic to the ball, quick transfer and throw.

Tate Kiehn OF / RHP / Blue Valley North, KS / 2020 Kiehn is a 5-foot-10 150-pound right-handed hitting infielder in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 4.70 home to first and has a 66 mph exit velocity. Offensively, starts in a square and athletic stance, smooth load with reverse toe tap, little hand movement, in line stride, level path, gap to gap approach. On the infield, 62 mph positonal velo, over the top release, fluid transfer on time with footwork, soft hands.

P Michael Lane SS / 2B / Blue Valley, KS / 2019 Lane is a 5-foot-4 130-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.71 home to first and has a 77 mph exit velocity. At the plate, slightly open set up, simple and repeatable swing, level path with quick hands, middle to pull line drives.  On the infield, 69 mph positional velocity, high three quareters arm slot, athletic footwork throug the ball, works behind the ball, quick catch and throw.

Zaden Marroquin C / SS / Olathe East , KS / 2021 Marroquin is a 5-foot-8 145-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.60 home to first and has a 72 mph exit velocity. At the plate, thin stance, short in line stride, slightly closed with lift to bat path, balanced swing, mostly middle to pull side contact. On the infield, 62 mph positional velocity, stays under control with fluid actions, clean exchange, short over the top release.

Jack Minnis 2B / SS / St. Thomas Aquinas, KS / 2020 Minnis is a 5-foot-9 140-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.71 home to first and has an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, thin stance, hands separate with in line stride, quick bat speed, body stays under control. On the infield, 70 mph positional velocity, short three quarters arm slot, fluid footwork and fluid exchange, controlled body.

Michael Paule SS / 2B / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2020 Paule is a 5-foot-10 157-pound right-handed hitting shorstop in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.63 home to first and has an 81 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, slightly closed stride, hands separate from stride, quick bat speed, middle to pull side line drives.  On the infield, 68 mph positonal velocity, high three quarters release, quick to the ball, active feet, plays through the catch, momentum after the catch, clean exchange.

Luke Purdy RHP / SS / Olathe South, KS / 2019 Purdy is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.10 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, fluid pre swing rhythm in hands and base, short in line stride, aggressive swing, middle to pull side contact.  On the infield, over the top release, quick transfer and throw, quick to the ball with clean transfer.

Jaidan Quinn 1B / 3B / Olathe West, KS / 2020 Quinn is a 6-foot 190-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.51 home to first and has an 89 mph exit velocity. Open stance, controlled pre swing rhythm, in line stride, aggressive swing speed, strong lower half, power to pull gap, does not get cheated. On the infield, 80 mph positional velocity, loose over the top release, momentum to throw after the catch, quick to the ball, clean transfer from glove to hand.

Sabastian Ramirez 3B / OF / Olathe South , KS / 2020 Ramierz is a 5-foot-9 170-pound third baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.50 home to first and has a 76 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load into back leg, gets into athletic position, slightly closed stride, level bat path, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, 72 mph postional velo, quick catch and throw, fields ball in athletic positoin, quick one step and throw, clean exchange.

David Sommers RHP / 2B / Olathe South, KS / 2020 Sommers is a 5-foot-8 140-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.56 home to first and has a 74 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, slight load into back side, no wasted hand movement, repeatable swing, body stays under control, hands manage the barrel, middle to pull line drives.  On the infield, 70 mph positional velcoity, over the top release, athletic footwork behind and through the ball, quick glove to hand transfer, soft hands.

Danny Spell SS / RHP / St Thomas Aquinas, KS / 2020 Spell is a 5-foot-10 155-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas 2020 class.  He ran a 4.52 home to first and has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall set up, reverse to tap, short stride, hands control the bat, body stays under control, middle to pull side line drives.  On the infield, 75 mph positional velocity, short over the top release, fluid footwork to and through the ball, clean exchange, hands and feet on time together.

Peyton Walker LHP / 1B / Gardner Edgerton, KS / 2020 Walker is a 5-foot-10 145-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He Rana 4.58 home to first and has a 73 mph exit velocity. At the plate, Walker is a 5-foot-10 145-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kanas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.58 home to first and has a 73 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, quick and early stride, two-piece, minimal load, level path, middle to pull contact. At first base, quick to the ball, momentum to throw, clean transfer from glove to hand, over the top release, 65 mph positional velocity.
