Fall Underclass Games: Outfielder Analysis

Prep Baseball Report-Missouri/Kansas held the Fall Underclass Games at the University of Kansas on Saturday, October 20.  Over 50 players in the 2021-2022 classes from around the region attended.

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard.

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the outfielders  from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

Outfielders

Scott Adams OF / Maize , KS / 2021

Adams is a 5-foot-10, 174-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 recruiting class out of Maize HS in Wichita, KS. He ran a 7.27 second 60, 4.42 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 88 mph which was the highest recorded at the event. At the plate, Adams starts tall in an upright stance with a narrow base, slight leg lift into load, in line stride, quick hands, level bat path, repeatable swing. Defensively, Adams shows above average actions, attacks the baseball, long arm action, over the top release, positional velocity of 72 mph, fairly accurate throws.

Jericho Badwan LHP / OF / Fort Zumwalt West , MO / 2021

Badwan is a lean and athletic left-handed pitching and outfield prospect in Missouri’s 2021 class out of Ft. Zumwalt West HS. At the event he ran a 7.25 second 60 yard dash, 4.31 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 80 mph. During hitting evaluations, Badwan sprayed line drives to all fields, leg lift into his load, rhythm with hands, quick hands, level bat path, smooth and repeatable swing. Defensively in the outfield, Badwan has athletic actions, smooth and quick arm action, clean transfers, momentum towards target, positional velocity of 75 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Riley Clancy OF / LHP / Vianney, MO / 2021

Clancy has a large frame and athletic build at 6-foot, 180-pounds and is a left-handed hitting outfielder and LHP in Missouri’s 2021 recruiting class. At the event he ran a 7.07 second 60 yard dash, 4.44 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 82 mph. During hitting evaluations, simple weight shift to load, shorter inline stride, minimal head movement, smooth swing, high finish with hands, showed some pop to right field during batting practice. Defensively in the outfield, Clancy has fluid footwork, momentum towards target, three-quarter arm slot, positional velocity of 73 mph, mostly accurate throws

Joshua Darrenkamp OF / LHP / Maize South , KS / 2022

Darrenkamp is a 5-foot-6, 130-pound left-handed pitching and outfield prospect in Kansas’ 2022 class. At the event he ran a 7.34 second 60 yard dash, 4.53 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 78 mph. During batting practice, Darrenkamp starts with an open stance, quiet load, rhythm with hands, in line stride, level bat path, showed hard contact to left field. Defensively, he showed good actions in the outfield, clean arm action, momentum towards the target, positional velocity of 69 mph, fairly accurate throws.

Matthew Hornbeck OF / OF / St. James Academy, KS / 2021

Hornbeck is a 5-foot-9, 150-pound left-handed hitting outfield prospect in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the event he ran a 7.25 second 60 yard dash, 4.52 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 75 mph. At the plate, starts in an athletic stance, high hand position, simple load, in line stride, showed contact to all fields during batting practice. Defensively, Hornbeck is aggressive to the baseball, long clean arm action, clean transfers, momentum towards the target, high three-quarter release, positional velocity of 68 mph, fairly accurate throws.

Noble Oxford OF / 3B / Rockhurst, MO / 2021

Oxford is a 5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed hitting outfielder and RHP is Missouri’s 2021 recruiting class. He ran a 7.60 second 60, 4.57 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 80 mph. During hitting evaluations, Oxford showed line drive contact to the gaps, starts in a narrow stance, abbreviated leg lift to load, produces some rhythm with hands, slightly closed off stride, repeatable swing. Defensively, Oxford is aggressive to the baseball, clean transfers, long clean arm action, fluid footwork, three-quarter release, positional velocity of 69 mph, fairly accurate throws.

Quentin Platt SS / 2B / Liberty North, MO / 2021

Platt is a 5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed hitting middle infielder and outfielder in Missouri’s 2021 class. He ran a 7.64 second 60 and a 4.56 home-to-first. At the plate, 77 mph exit velocity, starts in a wide and open stance, simple knee pinch into load, in line stride, flat bat path, works inside the baseball, showed contact to right-center field with lift during batting practice. Defensively in the outfield, Plat is aggressive to the baseball, quick feet, clean transfers, momentum towards target, positional velocity of 70 mph, mostly accurate throws. On the infield, shows quick actions, moves well side to side, momentum behind throws, three-quarter release, positional velocity of 73 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Bradley Poletis OF / RHP / Rockhurst, MO / 2021

Poletis is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting outfield prospect in Missouri’s 2021 recruiting class. At the event he ran a 7.38 second 60 yard dash and a 4.32 home-to-first. At the plate, 77 exit velocity, starts with an open stance and tall body posture, toe tap into load, quiet hands, long stride, level bat path, sprayed fly balls to all fields during batting practice. Defensively in the outfield, Poletis has fluid footwork, long easy strides, momentum towards target, clean transfers, above average arm strength, positional velocity of 80 mph which was the highest recorded at the event, fairly accurate throws.

Aidan Polter OF / 2B / Seaman , KS / 2022

Polter is a 5-foot-6, 120-pound right-handed hitting outfield prospect in Kansas’ 2022 recruiting class. He ran a 7.07 second 60 yard dash and 4.41 home-to-first. At the plate, 70 mph exit velocity, quiet load, in line stride, smooth and repeatable swing, minimal head movement, quick hands, showed contact to pull side during batting practice. Defensively in the outfield, Polter shows fluid footwork, moves well side-to-side, momentum towards target, good actions, three-quarter release, positional velocity of 70 mph, fairly accurate throws.

Jake Sawyer RHP / OF / Blue Valley West, KS / 2021

Sawyer has a lean build with a projectable frame at 6-foot, 155-pounds and is a left-handed hitting outfielder and RHP in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the event he ran a 7.85 second 60, 4.85 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 79 mph. At the plate, Sawyer shows quiet hands, abbreviated leg lift into load, in line stride, high finish with hands, hard contact to center field during batting practice. Defensively in the outfield, Sawyer is raw with good actions, fluid footwork, arm shows potential as he continues to develop, positional velocity of 77 mph, mostly accurate throws.
