The NCAA made a slight change to the signing period, opening the period on November 14th and keeping it open until August.  They have done away with an early and late period, allowing athletes that commit after November 14th to go ahead and make their commitment binding if they choose.

For the players that committed prior to the November 14 date, the signing period allows athletes to make their commitment binding, by singing their NLI and Financial Aid paperwork.  Because schools can choose to wait to release their signed commitments, the information below on each school’s signing class is unofficial and subject to change.  Having said that, all of the commitments below have been reported by PBR and are on the PBR Commitment Tracker.

Below we begin our look at each Division I school in North Carolina, beginning with the private schools.  Schools are listed alphabetically.  We look to break down the in-state commitments as well as highlighting the entire class of high school commitments.

The Camels are coming off a Big South championship and have traditionally made a big splash in the Junior College market.  With improvements to their facility and their success in recent years, they are seeing more interest from in-state talent.  With three of their five in-state commits ranked inside the Top 100 in the state, look for Coach Haire to keep the train rolling.

Two items that tend to change the recruiting landscape for a school are success on the field and changes in the coaching staff.  Davidson has experienced both in recent years and has committed to recruiting North Carolina talent.  Coming off a Super Regional in 2017, the staff led by then recruiting coordinator and now head coach, Rucker Taylor, has been working to find fits for the Wildcat program.  All three of the North Carolina products in the 2019 class are ranked inside the Top 100 in the state.

Garrett Browder NC Fike 2019 C
Trey Donathan NC Charlotte Christian 2019 SS/RHP
Bennett Flynn CA Tamalpias 2019 RHP

The Blue Devils are working to recruit at a national level and their efforts have paid off on the field with a lot of success in recent years.  With only 1 prospect from North Carolina does not mean the Blue Devil staff has not been working as there are several high level prospects in the 2019 committed class.  Britt Fuller is a physical left handed hitter.  As the swing continues to develop he may be a middle of the lineup type hitter down the road.  Look for the Blue Devils to continue to work to bring in talent that fits their program, regardless of their home orgin.

Jack Colyar PA Archbishop Wood 2019 RHP

  • # of Top 100 Ranked Players in NC: 1
  • Immediate Impact Player: Jayson Arendt

Elon is another school that has recruited extremely well away from their home state and the 2019 class is very similar.  They do have one commit inside the top 100 from North Carolina with Arendt who may be able to help in a dual fashion.  The arm has strength on the bump and in the box, the right handed hitter has an advanced feel for the barrel.

Jayson Arendt NC Holly Springs 2019 RHP
Spencer Bauer NJ Christian Brothers Academy 2019 RHP
Liam Dabagian PA Malvern Prep 2019 LHP
Ian Evans NY Wilson 2019 RHP
Willie Havens VA Amelia County 2019 C
Alex Iadisernia NJ Jackson Memorial 2019 OF
Trevor Kirk NC North Raleigh Christian Academy 2019 RHP
Sean O'Connell MA BC 2019 RHP
Stephen Paolini CT St. Joseph 2019 OF
Joseph Savino NY Connetquot 2019 RHP
J.P. Sponseller OH Mason 2019 1B

The coaching staff at Gardner-Webb has been very aggressive in recent years and it has paid off with talent in the 2019 committed class.  Britton has polish on the mound and a good feel for his change-up.  As he adds strength to his frame his fastball should be primed to take a big jump.  LaSpaluto is a potential dual prospect, but should help quickly in the middle of the field.  A twitchy athlete, there is an advanced feel for the game already.
