Pennsylvania Diamond Notes (Week One)

Greg Williams
Pennsylvania Director of Scouting

Matt WoodCatcher Matt Wood (Pine-Richland) began the season with an impressive display at the plate. Through five games the Penn State recruit, ranked No. 39 in the PA Class of 2019, has gone 9-for-15 with 11 RBI and 20 total bases.

Of his nine hits five have gone for extra bases including two doubles and three home runs.

Wood is already on a pace that would far eclipse his solid numbers from his junior campaign. In 2018 the left-handed hitter hit .444 with 22 RBI. His 12 extra base hits as a junior included eight doubles, a triple and three home runs.

Pine-Richland is off to a 3-2 start to the season with both losses being of the one run variety (2-1 loss to Bethel Park and a 5-4 loss to Hempfield Area)
