Eastern PA College Prospect Showcase: Class of 2019 Position Player Analysis

The summer schedule of PBR events in Pennsylvania continued this week with the 2018 Eastern PA College Prospect Showcase on June 10th. 56 prospects gathered at Cooper Park on the campus of Millersville University. Today we continue our analysis of the prospects in attendance by taking a look at those that participated as position players from the Class of 2019.

TOP PROSPECTs

Nick BennettNick Bennett, 2019, SS, Lower Dauphin HS (PA)
5-foot-9, 155-pound middle infielder showcased an above average all-around skill set with the ability to play early at the next level. The right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a toe-tap stride to initiate his swing. Showcased a solid lower half and direct swing path while routinely barreling the baseball during a loud round of batting practice. Registered an 86 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.14 60-yard dash. Displayed active feet and a soft glove hand with solid carry on throws of 82 mph across the diamond. Attacks the baseball and makes throws from multiple arm angles. 

Chase HoeckeChase Hoecke, 2019, C, Dallastown Area HS (PA)
5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed hitter took one of the top rounds of batting practice on the day. He starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to start. A solid hip turn and direct swing path leads to consistent hard contact with present gap power. Showcased an 85 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.03 60-yard dash. Worked out solely as a catcher, but foot speed allows Hoecke to also handle duties in the outfield when not behind the dish. Registered pop times of 2.06-2.18 on throws of 72 mph from the crouch with quick feet and a clean transition. Among the top uncommitted backstops in the state. Ability to play multiple defensive positions will give Hoecke a chance to play early at the next level.

Garrett LoweGarrett Lowe, 2019, 3B, Kennard-Dale HS (PA)
6-foot-3, 190-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Good balance throughout with above average feel for the baseball led to routine loud contact. Showcased present pull-side pop with a bat exit velocity of 90 mph. Ran a 7.53 60-yard dash and displayed active feet, a soft glove hand and accurate 81 mph arm strength across the diamond from third base. Athletic frame still has room to add additional strength. Potential to make move across the diamond to first base at the next level or to a corner outfield spot with his athleticism. 

Logan ScheiderLogan Scheider, 2019, 2B, West Allegheny HS (PA)
5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance an utilizes a toe-tap stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a direct swing path with an above average feel for the barrel and a bat exit velocity of 81 mph during a solid round of batting practice. Showcased an ability to backspin the baseball and the potential for some gap power in the future. Ran a 7.50 60-yard dash and showcased the ability to make plays on the move with throws from multiple arm angles. Feet work well through the baseball and he displayed a confidence in his glove hand. Registered accurate 75 mph arm strength across the diamond with much more in the tank. Athletic frame has room to continue to fill out and a move to third base is a possibility at the next level.

Sam Buckwalter, 2019, SS, Solanco HS (PA)
5-foot-9, 175-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a short, lift-and-replace stride. Displayed a line drive approach with balance throughout leading to a bat exit velocity of 78 mph. Ran a 7.81 60-yard dash and displayed defensive skills best suited for second base at the next level with accurate 74 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Becker Kaufman, 2019, OF, Tuscarora HS (VA)
5-foot-8, 140-pound right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Showed a direct swing path with a line drive approach and a feel for the barrel. Registered a 75 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.07 60-yard dash. Played through the baseball routinely during defensive evaluation with accurate 83 mph arm strength from the outfield. 

Jacob Gelvin, 2019, OF, Governor Mifflin HS (PA)
5-foot-10, 130-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a line drive approach at the plate with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. Showcased athletic actions defensively while routinely playing through the baseball. Current 70 mph arm strength across the diamond will improve through physical maturity and strength gains. Ran a 7.53 60-yard dash.

Dylan Kummery, 2019, OF, Souderton Area HS (PA)
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Showcased a feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 80 mph. Ran a 7.13 60-yard dash and displayed accurate 74 mph arm strength from the outfield. 
 

Matthew Stevens, 2019, OF, Daniel Boone HS (PA)
5-foot-6, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a strong lower half with an aggressive hip turn leading to consistent loud contact during a solid round of batting practice. Showed an ability to drive the gaps with back spin and a bat exit velocity of 89 mph. Ran a 7.20 60-yard dash and showcased athletic actions in the outfield while routinely playing through the baseball. Registered accurate 84 mph arm strength to home plate. 

Roman Wright, 2019, OF, Central Dauphin East HS (PA)
5-foot-8, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a closed stance and utilizes a leg-lift stride to initiate his swing. Stays closed on stride limiting his ability to turn on pitches on the inner half. Showcased a bat exit velocity of 81 mph and ran a 7.22 60-yard dash. Plays through the baseball routinely in the outfield and displayed accurate 84 mph arm strength on throws to home plate.
