Eastern PA College Prospect Showcase: Class of 2021 & 2022 Position Player Analysis

The summer schedule of PBR events in Pennsylvania continued this week with the 2018 Eastern PA College Prospect Showcase on June 10th. 56 prospects gathered at Cooper Park on the campus of Millersville University. Today we begin our analysis of the prospects in attendance by taking a look at those that participated as position players from the Class of 2021 and 2022.

TOP PROSPECTs

Sammy BurmanSammy Burman, 2022, 2B, Friends Central School (PA)
5-foot-10, 170-pound left-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a short, lift-and-replace stride to begin his swing from a high back elbow load. Displayed a strong lower half and a direct swing path with an ability to create backspin during a solid round of batting practice. Showcased an 80 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.63 60-yard dash. Showed active feet and the ability to play through the baseball routinely defensively with 73 mph arm strength across the diamond. Advanced feel for the barrel at the plate makes Burman a prospect to watch early on in this class.

Danny EstradaDanny Estrada, 2021, OF, Wilson West Lawn HS (PA)
5-foot-8, 160-pound left-handed hitter impressed with a short swing with a strong lower half that is initiated with a lift-and-replace stride. Begins from a square stance and showed advanced feel for the barrel with a direct swing path leading to a bat exit velocity of 81 mph. Made routine loud contact and showed an ability to drive the gaps. Ran a 7.53 60-yard dash and showcased athletic actions defensively with developing 72 mph arm strength from the outfield. Frame has the potential to fill out significantly and current offensive skills makes Estrada a follow in this class.

Christopher Ayres, 2021, 2B, Malvern Prep (PA)
5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a short, lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a line drive approach with a flat barrel path through the zone and a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Ran a 7.35 60-yard dash and showcased accurate 74 mph arm strength across the diamond. Current defensive skill set is best suited for second base with an over-the-top throwing motion that will need to be adjusted for a move to the left side of the infield.

Jakob Burgess, 2021, 2B, Sayre Area HS (PA)
5-foot-4, 140-pound right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and initiates his swing with a short, leg-lift stride. Displayed a line drive approach from a deep load position with a bat exit velocity of 71 mph. Ran a 7.82 60-yard dash and showcased 73 mph arm strength across the diamond defensively. Overall skill set will benefit from continued strength gains and physical maturity.

Luke Buscaglia, 2021, SS, Friends Central School (PA)
5-foot-10, 130-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a line drive approach at the plate with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. Showcased athletic actions defensively while routinely playing through the baseball. Current 70 mph arm strength across the diamond will improve through physical maturity and strength gains. Ran a 7.53 60-yard dash.

Jacob Detwiler, 2022, C, Central HS (PA)
5-foot-6, 180-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a heel-raise stride. Displayed balance throughout with a line drive approach and a bat exit velocity of 76 mph. Showcased developing defensive skills behind the plate with pop times of 2.57-2.65 on throws of 62 mph from the crouch.

Iann Firestone, 2021, C, Conrad Weiser HS (PA)
5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a leg-lift stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a solid fee for the barrel during batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Ran a 7.95 60-yard dash and showcased pop times of 2.15-2.25 on throws of 73 mph from the crouch. Received well in bullpens phase of the event and presents a soft wall when blocking. Definite follow in this class.

Brayden Horton, 2022, C, Sayre Area HS (PA)
5-foot-11, 170-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a short lift-and-replace stride. Displayed good balance throughout with above average feel for the barrel and a bat exit velocity of 78 mph. Ran a 7.71 60-yard dash and flashed solid catch and throw skills behind the plate with pop times of 2.20-2.30 on throws of 70 mph from the crouch. Impressed with his receiving skills during bullpen phase of the event. Current skill set and the potential to add to an young, athletic frame makes Horton a prospect to follow in this class.

Matthew Lingenfelter, 2022, 3B, State College Area HS (PA)
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a toe-tap stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a strong lower half and a solid feel for the barrel while wearing out the middle of the field during batting practice. Registered a 78 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.84 60-yard dash. Showcased solid actions defensively while routinely playing through the baseball with good carry on throws of 76 mph across the diamond.

Aaden Newman, 2021, 2B, Chambersburg HS (PA)
6-foot-2, 170-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a short lift-and-replace stride. Showcased a high finish and the ability to create occasional back spin with solid feel for the barrel. Registered a 78 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.66 60-yard dash. Displayed developing defensive skills with a tendency to cut off his lower half in his throwing motion with 68 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Jacob Stretch, 2021, SS, Avon Grove HS (PA)
5-foot-9, 130-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a short leg-hang stride. Showcased a feel for the barrel during a solid round of batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 76 mph. Ran a 7.68 60-yard dash and showcased fluid defensive actions with a quick release and accurate 67 mph arm strength across the diamond. Routinely played through the baseball with active feet and showed confidence in his glove hand. Solid all-around skill set will continue to develop with strength gains and physical maturity.
