Elite Prospect Showcase: Infield Analysis

The Elite Prospect Showcase took place October 27th at Keystone State Baseball Academy. Today we continue a series of articles analyzing the prospects in attendance with a look at the infielders that participated.

Class of 2019 

Anthony Boccio, Coatesville Area HS (PA), SS
Uncommitted 6-foot, 175-pound middle infielder impressed with his overall skills and the progress he has made since we first saw him two years ago. The left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a controlled heel-raise stride to initiate his swing. Boccio took one of the best rounds of batting practice on the day, consistently making hard contact with a direct swing path while staying inside the baseball. He ran a 6.99 60-yard dash and registered a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. Boccio showcased active fee and soft hands defensively with accurate 83 mph arm strength across the diamond.

CLASS OF 2020

Quinn Hanafin, Sayre Area HS (PA), 3B
5-foot-9, 180-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a toe-tap stride. Showcased a compact swing with a very strong lower half and the ability to create backspin. Consistently made loud contact while showing present power to the pull side. Registered a bat exit velocity of 86 mph and ran a 7.44 60-yard dash. Displayed solid actions defensively with active feet while routinely playing through the baseball. Showed ability to make plays on the move with accurate 82 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Kyle Mahady, Nazareth Area HS (PA), RHP/3B
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance an utilizes a heel-raise stride to initiate his swing from a high hands load. Displayed a line drive approach with a feel for the barrel and a bat exit velocity of 75 mph on this day. Has previously shown an 82 mph bat exit. Showcased capable defensive actions at the hot corner with accurate 82 mph arm strength across the diamond. The primary pitcher also topped at 82 mph off the mound.

Jeremy Piatkiewicz, Parkland HS (PA), SS
5-foot-9, 140-pound switch hitter starts from a slightly open stance from both sides of the plate. He utilizes a leg-lift stride to initiate his swing. Showcased solid feel for the barrel from both sides of the plate with an 89 mph bat exit velocity from the right side at an earlier event this fall. Piatkiewicz moves well defensively and shows the ability to play through the baseball consistently. Displayed 82 mph arm strength with an ability to make throws from multiple arm angles. Completed a well rounded day by running a 6.94 60-yard dash.

Christian Quinn, Harriton HS (PA), 1B
6-foot-1, 220-pound switch hitter stood out as one of the top hitters on the day. Starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a leg-hang stride form both sides of the plate with similar swing paths. Left side shows greater lift and power potential but the true switch hitter has the ability to continue swinging from both sides moving forward. Made consistent loud contact while creating back spin, especially from the left side. Registered a bat exit velocity of 86 mph and ran a 7.77 60-yard dash. Showcased solid footwork and a soft glove hand around the bag at first base with accurate 80 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Jordan Ramlogan, Holy Trinity HS (NY), 2B
5-foot-6, 150-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a toe-tap stride. Showcased a solid feel for the barrel with a direct swing path and a line drive approach. Registered a 76 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 6.86 60-yard dash. Flashed 82 mph arm strength across the diamond with a capable glove hand. With his foot speed and arm strength Ramolgan could easily fill a need at several defensive positions at the next level.

Brian Reiner, Souderton Area HS (PA), SS/RHP
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and utilizes a leg-hang stride to initiate his swing. Displayed above average feel for the barrel while consistently staying behind the baseball while registering a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Showcased a long arm throwing motion defensively with accurate 80 mph arm strength across the diamond. Ran a 7.13 60-yard dash and topped at 82 mph off the mound during his bullpen session.

Zach Shertzer, Warwick HS (PA), 3B
6-foot-1, 75-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed some feel for the barrel while creating occasional back spin and registered a bat exit velocity of 75 mph. Ran a 7.42 60-yard dash and showcased confidence in his glove hand with accurate 77 mph arm strength across the diamond. Interesting prospect that should continue to develop as he grows into his athletic frame and adds strength.

Parker Swartz, Parkland HS (PA), 2B
5-foot-10, 145-pounder is fluid and easy in all of his actions. As he adds strength to his athletic frame and becomes more explosive a move to shortstop could be in his future. The right-handed hitter starts from a wide, square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed an above average feel for the barrel with a 79 mph bat exit velocity. Ran a 7.26 60-yard dash and showcased fluid actions defensively with a quick release. Showed an ability to play through the baseball routinely with accurate 73 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Patrick Toal, The Haverford School (PA), RHP/3B
Athletic 6-foot-2, 195-pound two-way prospect. The right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a knee-to-knee stride to initiate his swing. Stays behind the baseball well and displayed the ability to create some backspin with a bat exit velocity of 75 mph. Showcased active feet defensively while routinely playing through the baseball. Ran a 7.35 60-yard dash and registered accurate 82 mph arm strength across the diamond. The primary pitcher topped at 85 mph during his bullpen session.

CLASS OF 2021

Alex Gabauer, Norwin HS (PA), SS
6-foot, 160-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a short, heel-raise stride. Stays behind the baseball well and utilizes all fields. Showcased above average feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 80 mph. Displayed fluid actions with active feel defensively. Registered 77 mph arm strength across the diamond and ran a 7.17 60-yard dash.

Louie Kegerreis, Franklin Regional HS (PA), 3B
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and strides to even in initiating his swing. Displayed a feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. Showcased athletic actions defensively with active feet and the ability to play through the baseball. Registered 82 mph arm strength across the diamond. Athletic frame has plenty of room to develop. Definite follow among infielders in this class.

Braden Kolmansberger, Red Land HS (PA), SS
6-foot, 140-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Begins from a high hands load but drops hands into a lower slot to create a flat path through the hitting zone. Displayed a feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 71 mph. Showcased capable actions defensively with accurate 70 mph arm strength across the diamond and ran a 7.52 60-yard dash.

Ian Korn, York Suburban HS (PA), RHP/SS
5-foot-10, 165-pound two-way prospect. The right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and utilizes a leg hang stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a line drive approach with a 76 mph bat exit velocity. Ran a 7.07 60-yard dash and showcased accurate 76 mph arm strength across the diamond defensively. The primary pitcher topped at 81 mph during his bullpen session.

Aaden Newman, Chambersburg HS (PA), 2B 
6-foot-3, 180-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Displayed the ability to stay behind the baseball and to create consistent backspin during a solid round of batting practice. Registered a 75 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.29 60-yard dash. Displayed developing defensive skills as an infielder with accurate 77 mph arm strength across the diamond. Athletic frame that has room to add strength. A move to 1B or a corner outfield position is likely given his size.

CLASS OF 2022

Randy Carlo, Wilson HS (PA), 2B
5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitter displayed the swing that helped him to lead the Team PA 14U offense at the 2018 PBR Junior Future Games. Carlo starts from an open stance and initiates his swing with a leg-hang stride. Displayed the ability to consistently be on time to the baseball with an ability to create backspin. Registered an 87 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.52 60-yard dash. Displayed 76 mph arm strength across the diamond with capable defensive actions. Athletic frame is likely to continue to fill out in the coming years with a move to first base being a logical defensive progression.

Tim Dickinson, Garnet Valley HS (PA), 2B
5-foot-9, 150-pound left-handed hitter starts from an a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed an above average feel for the barrel with a line drive approach. Registered a 78 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.37 60-yard dash. Showcased active feet and a soft glove hand defensively while routinely playing through the baseball with accurate 73 mph arm strength across the diamond. Fundamentally sound prospect will be an interesting follow as he matures physically and adds strength to his frame.

Ryan Weingartner, St. Augustine Prep HS (NJ), SS
5-foot-8, 120-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed a solid feel for the barrel with a line drive approach and a bat exit velocity of 74 mph. Ran a 7.35 60-yard dash and showcased fundamentally sound defensive actions with accurate 80 mph arm strength across the diamond. Long athletic frame will benefit from strength gains through physical maturity. Definite follow in this class.
