Fall Measurables and Evaluation Showcase: Middle Infield Analysis

The Fall Measurables & Evaluation Showcase took place on November 2nd at Keystone State Baseball Academy giving our staff a final look this fall at prospects from three states. Today we conclude a series of articles analyzing the prospects in attendance with a look at those players that participated as primary middle infielders.

Middle Infield Analysis

Tyler Batdorf, Wilson West Lawn HS, SS, 2021
5-foot-8, 145-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed balance throughout with a short, line drive swing path and a feel for the barrel. Registered a bat exit velocity of 80 mph and ran a 6.75 60-yard dash. Showcased active feet and a quick release defensively with 74 mph arm strength across the diamond. Solid all-around skill set with the foot speed to also make a move to the outfield at the next level.

Luke Caucci, Plymouth Whitemarsh HS, 2B, 2023
5-foot-8, 130-pound right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and utilizes a leg-lift stride to initiate his swing. Showcased a solid hip turn and hands that work well through contact. Registered a bat exit velocity of 77 mph and ran a 7.03 60-yard dash. Displayed fundamentally sound defensive actions with developing 70 mph arm strength across the diamond. Athletic frame has plenty of room to add strength in the coming years. Definite follow in this class as he matures as a player.

Ben Koleno, Cumberland Valley HS, SS, 2023
5-foot-10, 171-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a quick, leg-lift stride to begin. Showcased a direct swing path with limited lower half action. Registered a bat exit velocity of 78 mph and ran a 7.59 60-yard dash. Feet work well defensively and displayed the ability to play through the baseball routinely with accurate 71 mph arm strength across the diamond. Athletic frame has room to add strength with a move to third base a possibility in the future.

Owen Maul, Malvern Prep, SS, 2021
5-foot-9, 150-pound right-handed hitter starts from a wide, square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed a simple, direct swing path with a feel for the barrel. Registered a bat exit velocity of 81 mph and ran a 7.35 60-yard dash. Showcased fluid, athletic actions while playing through the baseball defensively with effortless 79 mph arm strength across the diamond. Well rounded skill set will continue to develop through strength gains. 

Dominic Patrizi, Cherokee (NJ), SS, 2022
5-foot-9, 160-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a toe-tap stride. Showcased balance throughout with very quick hands and a middle of the field approach. Registered a bat exit velocity of 83 mph and ran a 7.38 60-yard dash. Flashed above average athleticism defensively making a backhand, diving play look routine. Plays through the baseball and showcased solid carry on throws of 84 mph across the diamond.

David Thomas, Red Land HS, 2B/RHP, 2023
5-foot-10, 145-pound right-handed hitter starts from an open stance utilizes a  lift-and-replace stride to initiate his hands from a deep load position leading to some length in the swing. Registered a bat exit velocity of 80 mph and ran a 7.16 60-yard dash. Displayed developing defensive skills with accurate 72 mph arm strength across the diamond. The righty sat 73-76 from a high 3/4 arm slot off the mound. Showcased command of three pitches and a repeatable delivery. Curveball at  64-65 showed 11/5 rotation and changeup at near fastball arm speed sat 68-72.

Michael Trommer, Archbishop Wood HS, SS/RHP, 2022
6-foot, 180-pound two-way prospect had a breakout performance showcasing athleticism, above average strength in his frame and true two-way abilities. The left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to begin. Displayed balance throughout with a strong lower half with present power to the pull side and the ability to create backspin. Registered a bat exit velocity of 90 mph and ran a 7.47 60-yard dash. Advanced defender plays low to the ground and through the baseball with easy 79 mph arm strength across the diamond. The righty also sat 82-84 from a high 3/4 arm slot with a quick arm swing and some sink to his fastball. Curveball at 68-70 showed biting 11/5 rotation with occasional two plane action. Changeup at 74-75 was thrown at near fastball arm speed.

Joe Vaccaro, Oley Valley HS, 2B, 2022
5-foot-8, 125-pound right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and initiates his swing with a leg hang stride. A wrap in the load phase leads to some length in the swing. Showcased a feel for the barrel with a middle of the field approach. Registered a bat exit velocity of 74 mph and ran a 7.31 60-yard dash. Showcased active feet and fluid defensive actions while consistently playing through the baseball with developing 73 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Christian Vanelli, Perkiomen School, 2B, 2023
5-foot-5, 115-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showcased a direct swing path with a line drive approach. Registered a bat exit velocity of 67 mph and ran a 7.15 60-yard dash. Displayed a tendency to field the baseball deep from a narrow base. Showed accurate 71 mph arm strength across the diamond from a long arm throwing motion. Overall skill set will benefit from strength gains through physical maturity.
