Inside the Rankings: Top 10 Class of 2022 Corner Infielders

With our latest rankings release for the 2022 class we decided to dive in deeper with a breakdown of the top 10 in each position. Today we move on to Corner Infielders 

Disclaimer: Players listed below are ranked in order of their PRIMARY listed position on the website that they have chosen. A dual player that is also strong at their secondary position may carry more weight in their overall ranking.

Class of 2022 Rankings Release

Top 10 Corner Infielders / Class of 2022

Jack Hopko 1B / OF / Maine-Endwell, NY / 2022

Quick Hit: Above average hit tool for the LHH from the Southern Tier. Can handle both 1B and a corner OF spot which will help his overall marketability (7.31 60 / 81 INF Velo / 82 MPH OF Velo / 99 MPH Exit Velo).

First Glimpse: Preseason All-State - Southern Tier (February 2019). Impressed with plate coverage and barrel control.

Breakout Performance: 2019 NYS Games (June 2019)

The Future: One of the top uncommitted players in the 2022 rankings, we are excited to see him once again at the 2020 NYS Games in July.

Bayram Hot 3B / SS / Archbishop Molloy , NY / 2022

Quick Hit: Athletic frame at 6-foot-0 190 pounds. Quick bat into the zone with a raw exit velocity of 90 MPH; Plenty of arm from the left side and showed easy actions laterally. 7.36 60 / 86 MPH INF Velo and also worked 80-83 MPH off the mound.

First Glimpse: Preseason All-State - Long Island (February 2020). Impressed in a multitude of ways.

Breakout Performance: Preseason All-State - Long Island (February 2020)

The Future: The Queens resident will be apart of the 2020 NYS Games in July. Looking forward to seeing him do his thing at the hot corner and also on the bump.

Myles Vazquez 1B / LHP / Grand Street Campus, NY / 2022

Quick Hit: Proportional build at 5-foot-11 205 pounds the LHH has shown the ability to drive the gaps with some developing power to his pull side. Handles the glove well around the bag and is good in the dirt.

First Glimpse: Brooklyn Bonnies Workout (June 2019). Aside from his offensive abilities, Vazquez can also command his FB up to 78 MPH with the ability to spin it.

Breakout Performance: Brooklyn Bonnies Workout (June 2019).

The Future: Will continue to progress at NYC PSAL powerhouse Grand St. Campus. Has to a chance one of the better pure hitters the next few years.

Michael O'Shaughnessy 3B / 1B / CBA - Albany, NY / 2022

Quick Hit: Sturdy build at 6-foot-0 200 pounds for the LHH. Impressed on both side of the ball with some natural lift at the plate. Quick first step for his frame and works proper angles to and through the ball.

First Glimpse: Tri-City Bombers Workout (November 2019).

Breakout Performance: Tri-State Open (February 2020)

The Future: Another player that will have some eyes on him at the NYS Games in July. Looking forward to see the metrics that he's able to put up on Trackman.

Calvin Dymond 1B / RHP / Kennedy Catholic, NY / 2022

Quick Hit: Imposing frame at 6-foot-4 210 pounds. The RHH has shown some present juice at the dish along with running his FB up to 84 MPH on the mound. 

First Glimpse: Fall Top Prospect Games (September 2019). Swung the bat well and pounded the ball to his pull side.

Breakout Performance: Preseason All-State - Hudson Valley (February 2020)

The Future: The Hudson Valley resident due to a conflict will actually be attending the PA State Games next week. Athletic for his frame; Dymond could easily be a dual prospect at the next level. 

Keldrin Rodriguez 3B / OF / Mount St. Michael's, NY / 2022

Quick Hit: Wiry 6-foot-2 170 pound build with some athleticism. LHH displays an effortless stroke that can reach out to both gaps. Could stick at 3B or possibly find himself at a corner OF spot in the long term. 7.20 60 / 90 MPH Exit Velo / 80 MPH INF arm.

First Glimpse: Rising Star Games (June 2018). Could see that the skill set was there, handled the bat well for his age at the time.

Breakout Performance: Last Chance Preview - Downstate (October 2019)

The Future: One of several CHSAA corners to make the list, Rodriguez's offensive skill set will continue to shine and as his frame fills out be on the lookout for additional power at the plate. 

Russell Hunter 3B / RHP / Kennedy Catholic, NY / 2022

Quick Hit: 6-foot-0 with a strong lower half. Simple approach at the plate with some pop through the middle of the field. Up to 82 MPH on the mound as well.

First Glimpse: Preseason All-State - East (February 2018). Loose efforts at the dish that produced solid contact to all fields.

Breakout Performance: Last Chance Preview - ENY (October 2019)

The Future: We'll get another look soon as Hunter will be with us for the 2020 NYS Games in Cortland this July. Long term projection will stick at the corners but curious to see recent development on the mound.

Kyle DeCresce 3B / RHP / Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake , NY / 2022

Quick Hit: Solid build at 6-foot-1 200 pounds; moves well for his frame and can work his FB up to 82 MPH on the mound.

First Glimpse: Northeast Pride Workout (February 2018). Slight lift through the zone with repeatable efforts at the plate.

Breakout Performance: Last Chance Preview - ENY (October 2019).

The Future: DeCresce has really started to his his stride at the plate; works line-to-line and continues to improve defensively and on the mound. We'll see him once again at the 2020 NYS Games in July.

John D'Innocenzo 3B / OF / North Salem , NY / 2022

Quick Hit: Athletic frame at 5-foot-9 165 pounds. The RHH ran a 7.16 60 with a line drive stroke through the middle of the field. Aggressive approach defensively both at 3B and in the OF.

First Glimpse: Last Chance Preview - Downstate (October 2019).

Breakout Performance: Last Chance Preview - Downstate (October 2019).

The Future: Showed a solid foundation that can handle a secondary position. Swing will continue to play and develop into someone who can reach the gaps on a consistent basis.

Jake Lukasiewicz 1B / LHP / Cicero North Syracuse, NY / 2022

Quick Hit: Massive build at 6-foot-5 220 builds with present power to his pull side. Consistent, hard contact.

First Glimpse: Preseason All-State - Hudson Valley (February 2019). Raw and still growing into his frame, early signs of power projection existed.

Breakout Performance: Fall Top Prospect Games (September 2019).

The Future: The ceiling is high for Lukasiewicz on the offensive side, could develop into one of the better power threats in the state if he continues with his recent progress.
