North Texas Underclass Games: Quick Hits

DALLAS, TX - On Monday, July 23rd, some of the top underclass talent from North Texas Underclass Games at Dallas Baptist University. Here is a quick look at what we saw.

+ 2021 C/SS Hudson White (Byron Nelson HS) was all over the field on Monday. He posted pop times of 1.86-2.01 with a velocity from the crouch of 79 mph. An Oklahoma State commit, White  also has polished actions on the infield and was 82-86 off the mound with 71-72 mph curveball.

+ 2020 SS Alex Gonzales (Argyle HS) was an every day player for Argyle HS and their undefeated state championship run. The right-handed hitter shined during batting practice, launching balls from the middle-to-pull side, including a home run to left field. He has a simple swing with loose hands, creating leverage with good lag in the zone and explosive extension through contact with an exit velocity of 91 mph.

+ 2020 RHP Braxton Pearson (Georgetown HS) continues to impress on the mound. The right-hander has a loose arm swing from a high-¾ slot. His fastball was 84-87, while his slider had tight spin and late break at 75-78 mph. Also spins a deeper breaking curveball at 74-76 mph. Threw one changeup at 80 mph.

+ 2021 OF Tyler Collins (McKinney Boyd HS) is an elite level player with fast-twitch tools (6.68 60-yard dash). The left-handed hitter can turn around velocity with quick hands and high end barrel awareness. He singled to centerfield and and ran a 4.11 on an infield chopper. His speed plays on both defense and the base paths, accelerates to full speed quickly.

+ 2020 OF Elijah Nunez (Arlington Martin HS) ran a 6.75, and the left-handed hitter registered an exit velocity of 91 mph off the tee. Nunez has loose-quick hands with natural rhythm and lift in his swing. During the game he single to centerfield. Nunez will be in action next week at the PBR Future Games.

+ 2021 OF Jacob Stephens (Plano West HS) had himself a strong showing on Monday, running a 7.06 60-yard dash, and showing pop to right-centerfield during batting practice with an exit velocity of 91 mph (off the tee). The right-handed hitter singled up the middle after a plus at bat where he fouled off multiple balls. He also squared up a ground ball to third base. In the outfield, he plays through the ball with athletic footwork and an easy crow hop. Made a heck of a play in centerfield and nearly gunned down a runner at third base tagging up from second.

+ 2020 C/OF Nathaniel Price continues to throw bullets to second base with an ultra-quick exchange and pop times of 1.86-1.93 with a velocity from the crouch of 79 mph. The right-handed hitter also posted an exit velocity of 93 mph.

+ 2020 OF Peyton Lewis (Parkway HS, LA) has a strong, projectable, athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds. Lewis made several plays in the outfield with relative ease, including one down the left field line on top of the wall. A two-sport athlete in high school, Lewis plays slot receiver for Parkway. The right-handed hitter starts from a tall stance and ahs simple strength in his hands with an exit velocity of 87 mph. Lewis ran a 7.0 60-yard dash, then singled through the right side and flew out on the barrel to right field.

+ 2021 RHP/3B Evan Johnson (Frenship HS) has a strong frame at 6-foot-3, 185-pounds. The right-handed hitter doubled to right field during the game, and made a nice play in the six hole. On the mound, he climbed as high as 87, sitting mostly 84-86 mph with his fastball. Spun a 70-71 curveball with average depth.

+ 2020 1B/RHP Dylan Russo (Keller HS) is consistently on the barrel every time our staff sees him. The right-handed hitter has simple strength at the plate with balance and rhythm. He posted an exit velocity of 89 mph during batting practice as he scorched balls with gap power. Russo was also 80-83 on the mound, topping out once at 85, and spun a 65-68 mph curveball with depth.

+ 2020 SS Tino Ramirez (Dallas Jesuit HS) made multiple plays at shortstop during the game. At 5-foot-10, 150-pounds, Ramirez has a wiry-athletic frame. Plays with a bounce in his step, turned a couple of nice double plays during the game, shows solid range with an accurate arm across the diamond to go with a clean release.

+ The hit parade continues for 2020 C/OF Robert Antonetti (Grapevine HS). The left-handed hitter continues to show why he is one of the top hitters in North Texas as he tripled to right-centerfield during the game and posted an exit velocity of 94 mph off the tee. Starting from a wide, balanced base, Antonetti has a simple swing with quick-strong hands that allow him to see the ball a long time and use the whole field. Berto also threw 89 mph from the outfield. Antonetti is a high academic student and has interest in the military academies.

+ 2020 SS/RHP Tyler Talbert (Flower Mound HS) is a strong, confident, athletic two-way player with upside. After running a 6.87 60-yard dash, Talbert took an outstanding round of BP, showing loose hands with good extension through contact as he laced balls through the middle of the field with an exit velocity of 87 mph. Talbert moves with easy actions at shortstop and has plenty of arm strength to stay on the left side of the field (91 mph). On the mound, the right-hander was 85-88.

+ 2020 Carson Ozmer (Denton Guyer HS) has a strong frame at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds and shows present strength and bat speed from the right side with an exit velocity of 94 mph. At shortstop, Ozmer has an accurate arm with a quick release and made a nice 2-handed run thru play. In the game, he hammered a single to right-centerfield on a first pitch fastball. On the mound, the right-hander was 83-87 with a 73-75 mph slider.

+ 2020 3B/RHP Thomas Wrehe (Southlake Carroll HS) has a strong frame with broad shoulders at 6-foot-1, 190-pounds. A switch hitter, Wrehe has made hard contact during during BP with a fluid hack that keeps the barrel in the zone a long time. On the mound, Wrehe was 82-87 mph with a 70-72 mph curveball, a 75 mph slider, and a 79 mph changeup.

+ 2021 SS Chase Spencer (Plano West HS) can really defend at shortstop with ultra-quick footwork that allows him to play through the ball with plus rhythm and timing. Accurate arm that works from different slots, can start the pivot from shortstop. Ran a 7.12 60-yard dash, showed good barrel awareness during BP, and flew out to deep right field during the game.

+ 2020 RHP Konnor Baird (Salado HS) earned himself a spot to the future games with another strong outing. The right-hander works from a high-¾ slot with a short arm stroke and a deceptive delivery. His fastball was 84-87 with arm side life, while his curveball has good 11/5 shape at 74-76. Also shows feel for a 74 mph changeup.

+ 2020 RHP/1B Tyson Carlton (Allen HS) has a big projectable frame at 6-foot-5, 225-pounds. The right-hander works from a high ¾ slot with relative ease down the mound. His fastball was 82-85 mph and he spun a 70-72 mph curveball.

+ 2020 RHP Christian Teran (Heritage HS) flashed some quality stuff on Monday. The right-hander was 83-87 with a 78-82 mph cut/slider. Spun a curveball at 70-71 and threw his changeup at 78.
