It's been a long, action-packed fall season throughout Texas. Much has happened over the course of the two-plus months since the launch of PBR Texas, all of which is reflected in our comprehensive 2019 Texas Top 50.
This is the first PBR Texas ranking of the 2019 class, with updates to come in the early spring, after our three winter events and before the high school season kicks off. To see our complete list of events click here.
Since its inception in 2005, the Prep Baseball Report has evolved into one of the country's biggest and most respected independent scouting services, with a singular focus of providing comprehensive coverage in every state we are in. The mission of the Prep Baseball Report is to promote high school baseball and, ultimately, help prep athletes achieve their dreams of playing baseball at the next level.
Today we take a more in-depth look at the shortstops in the Texas Top 50. The state of Texas is loaded with talent and the sophomore class this year is no different. Three of the top ten players in our ranking are shortstops, including the #1 ranked player in the country and Oklahoma recruit Bobby Witt Jr. (Colleyville Heritage HS). Sanson Faltine III and Jaden Woodson are also in the top ten.
A pair of Oklahoma recruits are also in the Top 50. #27 Preston King (Argyle HS), committed earlier this summer, while #34 Armani Sanchez (Reagan HS), recently committed to the Sooners.
Here is list of five ranked shortstops that are still available.
+ Peyton Chatagnier (Cy-Fair HS). Currently ranked #35.
5-foot-10, 150-pound, lean, projectable frame. The shortstop flashes good range with advanced footwork, good arm action with carry in the arm. Aggressive player, attacks ground balls and takes charge on pop-ups. The right-handed hitter has good rhythm, smooth swing and loose finish. Long stride runner.
+ Jace Jung (MacArthur HS). Currently ranked #41.
5-foot-10, 165-pound frame. All-around athlete with fluid movement, strong arm, quick feet, and good range in the middle of the infield. Powerful bat that generates solid contact on upward plane and extends well through the zone.
+ Wyatt Rohmer (Byron Nelson HS). Currently ranked #42.
5-foot-11, 160-pound frame. Athletic build with well defined lower half and strength in the hands. The right-handed hitter has a solid set-up at the plate, quiet rhythm, high leg-kick and good weight transfer. Showed high level bat speed and strength at contact on both fastballs and sliders. Aggressive base-runner stealing three bags on the day. Defensively he showed good range at shortstop.
+ Michael Cervantes (Clear Springs HS). Currently ranked #48.
5-foot-10, 170 pound strong frame. Has advanced defensive actions for his age. Displayed excellent footwork, quick feet, and the ability to throw on the run. Cervantes profiles as a player that should have no trouble staying on the infield in the future.
+ Jake Combs (Cypress Ranch HS). Currently ranked #49.
6-foot, 170-pound, wiry, strong, projectable frame with long limbs. Very projectable all around athlete that showed advanced actions, quick exchange and solid footwork. Ran a 7.2 60-yard dash.
