In late June, nearly 50 players from all corners of DC, and Virginia, Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia for the Top Prospect Games East event. Today, we continue our detailed breakdown of the event with the pitchers:

 

 

 

 

Sean Aronson C / RHP / Kellam, VA / 2022

Aronson is 6-2 with an athletic 190 pound frame that has some strength present and some projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and slightly closed, lands closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 76-78, touching 79, with some downward angle and a bit of boring action to armside. Slider was 68-69 with good armspeed and hard 10/4 break to it.

 

 

Adam Astacio RHP / C / St. John's College, VA / 2022

Astacio is 5-8 with an athletic 165 pound frame that has strength in the lower half and some projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and on line, lands on line with a slight fall off finish and some recoil. Fastball was 73-76, with some downward angle and a late armside run that also has some depth. Curveball was 59-62 with some armspeed and big gradual 12/6 break to it. Change-up was 67-68 with good armspeed and a bit of late fade.

 

 

Brayden Bachman OF / RHP / Atlantic Shores, VA / 2025

Bachman is 5-9 with an athletic165 pound frame that has some strength present already. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action with some quickness and normal effort to his delivery. Drop and drive delivery with some crossfire that creates deception, shoulders are level and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 74-76, touching 77, with some downward angle and late armside run that has depth as well. Slider was 65-68 with good armspeed and gradual 10/4 break to it. Knuckleball was 59-65 with good arm speed and late dance to it.

 

 

Patrick Brizendine LHP / 1B / Patrick Henry (Ashland), VA / 2023

Brizendine is 6-2 with an athletic 195 pound frame that has strength present and some projection left to it. He throws from a very low three-quarters arm slot, short loose arm action and easier effort to his delivery. Some crossfire in his delivery, shoulders are level and closed, lands closed with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was 77-82, with late heavy sink and a touch of armside run. Slider was 63-66 with some armspeed and big sweeping 2/8 break to it. Change-up was 71-73 with good armspeed and a late hard fade. Showed ability to manipulate breaking ball’s shape and speed.

 

 

Gavin Brunsman 3B / SS / Bishop Ireton, VA / 2022

Brunsman is 6-2 with an athletic 185 pound frame that has some strength present and plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot, shorter loose quick arm action and some effort to his delivery. Lots of deception in his delivery, shoulders are slightly downhill and very closed, lands closed with an athletic finish and some recoil. Fastball was 82-85, touching 86, with some downward angle and heavy armside run. Slider was 72-73 with good armspeed and big sharp sweeping 10/4 break to it. Change-up was 68-69 with good armspeed and a some late fade to it.

 

 

Landen Campbell LHP / 1B / Nelson County , VA / 2022

Campbell is 5-10 with a lankier athletic 165 pound frame that has some strength present and plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a very high three-quarters arm slot, longer free arm action and some effort to his delivery.Some crossfire in his delivery, shoulders are slightly uphill and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish and some recoil. Fastball was 74-78, touching 79, with some downward angle and late hard armside run. Change-up was 69-73 with good armspeed and a some late hard run to it.

 

 

Jayden Harrod-Daniels RHP / SS / Woodrow Wilson (DC), VA / 2025

Harrod-Daniels is 6-0 with a lankier athletic 160 pound frame that has plenty of room to add strength. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, longer free arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and on line, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 49-53, touching 54.

 

 

Kyle Henson RHP / 3B / Herndon, VA / 2022

Henson is 6-4 with a lanky projectable 180 pound frame that has a lot of room to add strength. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, longer loose quick arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are slightly uphill and slightly closed, lands slightly open with an athletic finish. Fastball was 76-81, touching 82, with some late armside run to it that gets some depth as well. Slider was 67-68 with good armspeed and sharp 10/4 break, pitch has some shape to it. Change-up was 67-70 with good armspeed and a heavy late fade to it.

 

 

Ryan Henson RHP / 1B / Paul VI, VA / 2024

Henson is 6-3 with a lankier projectable 185 pound frame that has some strength present in the lower half with room to add more. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short loose quick arm action and easier effort to his delivery. Shoulders are slightly uphill and closed, lands slightly closed with a fall off finish and some recoil. Fastball was 75-78, with late sink to it and a touch of armside run. Slider was 66-69 with good armspeed and gradual 10/4 break, pitch has some shape and a chance as it tightens. Change-up was 69-70 with good armspeed and some late sink to it.

 

 

Zach Horn LHP / OF / Brooke Point, VA / 2023

Horn has since committed to James Madison and is 6-3 with a lankier athletic 188 pound frame that has some strength present and a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short loose very quick arm action and higher effort to his delivery. Some drop and drive and crossfire to his delivery, shoulders are uphill and closed, lands closed with a fall off finish and some recoil. Fastball was 81-85, touching 86, with downward angle to it and a bit of late armside run. Curveball was 64-66 with some armspeed and big sharp 1/7 break to it. Change-up was 76-77 with good armspeed and some late sink to it.

 

 

John Noah Lukonis SS / RHP / Highland , VA / 2023

Lukonis is 5-10 with an athletic 160 pound frame that has some strength present and a lot of projection left to it. On the mound, he throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short loose quick arm action and higher effort to his delivery. Shoulders are slightly uphill and slightly closed, lands slightly closed with a fall off finish and some recoil. Fastball was 76-80, touching 81, with downward angle to it and a bit of late armside run that plays up when thrown to his armside. Slider was 65-69 with good armspeed and late hard 11/5 break to it. Change-up was 72-74 with good armspeed and some sink to it.

 

 

Aidan Massa LHP / 1B / Ocean Lakes , VA / 2023

Massa is 6-2 with an athletic 210 pound frame that has strength present. On the mound, he throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot, longer free arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and slightly closed, lands slightly open with an athletic finish. Fastball was 75-77, touching 78, with some downward angle to it and some late armside run. Curveball was 63-65 with good armspeed and hard 1/7 break to it. Change-up was 70-71 with good armspeed and heavy armside run.

 

 

Dawson Newman LHP / OF / Great Bridge , VA / 2024

Newman is 5-11 with a lanky 150 pound frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, longer free arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and on line, lands slightly open with a slight fall off finish and some recoil. Fastball was 74-75, touching 76, with some downward angle to it and a bit of late armside run. Slider was 67-70 with good armspeed and sharp 1/7 break to it, pitch has some shape.

 

 

Ryan Northup RHP / OF / First Colonial , VA / 2022

Northup is 5-11 with a lanky 150 pound frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, shorter free arm action with some quickness and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are slightly uphill and closed, lands slightly closed with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was 80-83, with some downward angle to it and a bit of late armside run that also gets some depth. Curveball was 67-70 with good armspeed and big sharp 10/4 break to it. Change-up was 74-77 with good armspeed and some late sink to it. Showed command of the strike zone with all three pitches.

 

 

Daniel Smith RHP / 1B / Granby , VA / 2024

Smith is 6-2 with a lanky 162 pound frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, longer free arm action normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and on line, lands slightly open with an athletic finish. Fastball was 71-72, touching 73, with late armside run and some late sink to it. Slider was 62-64 with good armspeed and sharp 10/4 break to it. Change-up was 67-69 with good armspeed and late heavy sink with a bit of armside run.

 

 

Justin Smith OF / RHP / Walsingham Academy, VA / 2023

Smith is 6-0 with a lankier athletic 172 pound frame that has some strength present and room to add more. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short free quick arm action with some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and slightly closed, lands on line with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was 76-80, with some downward angle and hard armside run that gets some depth. Curveball was 58-63 with some armspeed and sharp 11/5 break to it. Change-up was 71-74 with good armspeed and late fade to it.

 

 

Jordan Tyler RHP / OF / Grassfield , VA / 2022

Tyler has since committed to Paul D Camp CC and is 6-4 with a lankier athletic 190 pound frame that has plenty of room to add strength. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, longer free arm action with some quickness and effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and slightly closed, lands slightly closed with a slight fall off finish and recoil. Fastball was 75-79 with downward angle and some late armside run. Curveball was 58-62 with some armspeed and big gradual 11/5 break to it, pitch had some shape. Slider was 65-67 with good armspeed and late 10/4 break to it.

 

 

Jay Vergel 2B / RHP / Potomac Falls, VA / 2024

Vergel is 5-9 with a lankier athletic 135 pound frame that has plenty of room to add strength to it. He throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot, short free quicker arm action with higher effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 75-77 with some downward angle and late armside run that also gets some depth to it. Curveball was 57-59 with some armspeed and big gradual 11/5 break to it. Change-up was 67-71 with good armspeed and late fade.

 

 

Bryce Vick LHP / OF / James River (Midlothian), VA / 2022

Vick is 5-10 with an athletic 170 pound frame that has strength present. He throws from multiple slots, primarily either a very high three-quarters or just above sidearm. Very short loose arm action with some effort to his delivery. Some crossfire in his delivery, shoulders uphill from his higher slot and closed, lands closed with a fall off finish. Fastball was 75-78 with some downward angle and a bit late armside run from his high slot. From his lower slot, pitch gets heavy armside run with depth to it. Slider was 62-64 with some armspeed and late downer 1/7 break to it. Change-up was 65-66 with good armspeed and some late run.
