USA CNT:At 6-foot-1 and 230 pounds, first baseman Anthony Martinez (2025, UC Irvine) does not have the body type that screams “day one draft pick” and he does not also play point guard for his college basketball team, but his body type and his ability to consistently square up a baseball remind me of Tony Gwynn. The lefthanded-hitting Martinez let his bat do the talking throughout the trials, finishing 6-for-15 before missing the cut for the final 31-man roster.

vs St. Francis - Uncommitted; There are some lower body hitting mechanics that can improve (back knee drive and back hip rotation) but the hands and timing are very good. Flat stroke, good barrel control, couple of very good plate appearances vs a good HS LHP throwing in mid-upper 80s, showing that left on left doesn't bother him. That's a great sign for a sophomore hitter who was in the 3-spot in the line-up for a top team in the state.

Summer Scout - Large, physical build with strength in the frame and high waist. Swing is compact from the left side with strong posture and ability to utilize the lower half well; smooth swing with late bat speed being level through the zone. On base three times in 2nd game with two power ground balls through the 6-hole and a HBP. Physical frame showing as a heavy runner, but the bat speed is solid. Will have to learn how to get a bit more lift on the swing and allow his frame and lower half to get the ball into the air more for some future pop.
