Riverside Co. Preseason All-State: The #3 player in the Class of 2023 State Rankings, Egan is no stranger to us after having participated in the 2019 California State Games last summer and our other viewings of him throughout the fall. The top ranked outfielder in his class continues to show that he has that ranking locked down with his huge arm (91 mph) and his athleticism at the position. He’s also beginning to separate himself as one of the top hitters in the class with his combination of raw power, in-game power, and commitment to his plan. On the mound he showed improvement with his changeup command while seeing a velo uptick to 72-73 mph with the pitch. He was able to start the pitch middle and paint-the-black on the inner half with it, something we hadn’t seen consistently in the past. Fastball is heavy and bores in on hitters. Egan’s curveball command was a tick off, which we’ll chalk up to the time of year since we’ve seen it very good.

8/17/19

PBR CA STATE GAMES - Very athletic, proportioned body that projects for continued growth and strength. Two-way skills advanced for his age. Stays tall with high hands set up showing ability to work bat on plane upwards through the zone; ball jumped off the bat from simple easy load picking up 2B into LF. Patience at the plate with multiple walks seeing pitches early and adjusting his approach. Arm is an asset in OF and also on the hill. Athletic on the mound working two strong innings with a K, BB, HBP and Hit. Hands start at the waist through slow kick to average front knee while showing slight rock over the back hip. Arm is compact being fluid with quickness through H-3/4 release. FB 83-85 with 80-82 two-seamer; angle and life up through the zone flashing cut gloveside. Pitch was late and attacked in and out of the zone. CB 68-70 has 11/5-to-11/6 shape with tight short actions; will wrap the pitch a bit flashing the ability to go into and through the zone.

9/23/18

Rising Stars Showcase - Five-foot-10, 160-pounds, medium/large frame with strength in the lower half, squared shoulders and wiry strength down through to the wrists. At the plate Egan shows excellent control of the barrel which he maintains through the hitting zone for a long time. He's short to the ball and gets extended through it. Tends to be a front side hitter with his weight on the front leg at contact. Shows some gap-to-gap present power from a middle approach. In the outfield Egan has an above average arm that flashes life and accuracy from a short, compact arm action with a quick release. Gathers the ball out front and exchanges are clean and quick with no wasted movements. Footwork is fluid with good range to both sides. Charges ball with excellent body control and plays through them to release.
