6/6/18 - Drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 16th Round out of Polk State JC.
Committed to North Carolina State out of Polk State JC (FL).
Transferred to Polk State JC from Northern Illinois.
4.4.15 - Listed at 6-foot, 165-pounds but looks to be at least 6-foot-2 now, lean, lanky and athletic RHP/CF impresses with all-around game. Homered three times in double header, two to center and one to right field. Hits from a tall, athletic, open setup, short, compact, level, line drive swing, lets the ball get deep, 4.08 runner to first on an infield error at 2B, subsequently stole second (ran a 6.64 laser timed 60 this summer). Plus arm during infield/outfield during pregame in center. Throws from a loose, athletic, high ¾ arm slot, nearly threw out a runner at the plate in game two from medium center field on a fly to home. On the mound, fastball sat mostly 84-86 mph, touched 88 mph with sink and arm side run when down in the zone. Late breaking curveball thrown from 70-73 mph, missed down in the dirt, but has quality shape and action. Also flashed a 76-77 mph change. Barger is a legitimate two-way talent, but may be a draft type talent as an outfielder. He’s one of the top overall athletes in the 2016 class.
6/19/14 - 6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder/right-handed pitcher currently ranked No. 43 in Illinois' class of 2016 impressed as one of the top all-around athletes at this year's Top Prospect Showcase. Ran 6.64 in the 60, threw 89 from the outfield, and up to 86 off the mound. At the plate, hits from a tall-open setup with a short stride, quiet hands, and a short load producing a short, compact, level line-drive swing with exit velocity up to 88 mph. Moves well side-to-side in the outfield playing through the baseball getting good carry on accurate throws from a high ¾ arm action. On the mound worked between 83-86 with fastball from high ¾ arm action from a smooth delivery that stays in line with home plate. Fastball sat at 83 from the stretch as he failed to get back over the rubber and load hips. 68-69 mph curveball showed occasional 12/6 action, and slowed arm on 70-72 mph changeup with arm side run that he consistently threw for strikes. Easy delivery, clean arm action, and overall athleticism make it easy to project low 90's fastball velocity in the upcoming years.
1.19.14 - 6-foot, 160-pound athletic two-way player who projects well. Showcased advanced foot speed, running a 7.06 60. Foot speed and athleticism translated well defensively as he showed quality footwork, soft hands and athletic movements to and through the baseball. Arm works long and loose from a high ¾ slot at 85 mph with accuracy and carry. At the plate he hits from a balanced stance, smooth loading action and a short stride. Showed an advanced approach at the plate. Swing is strong with advanced bat speed. Exit velocity was 84 mph off the tee. On the mound his delivery has some rhythm with clean lines and athletic finish. Arm works quick and loose from a high ¾ slot. Fastball 80-81 mph, flashing 82 mph with slight running action, for strikes. Showed advanced feel for his curveball. Has 11/5 shape, quality depth and late, sharp bite, sitting 64-67 mph. Changeup was 70-75 mph with arm side run.
10/27/13 - Long athletic frame, projectable build, 5-foot-11, 155-pound two-way prospect. Barger was one of the top prospects at the event, shows a high level of projection, excellent athlete. Ran the fastest 60 of the event, 6.95 runner. Offensively hits from an open stance, short stride, strong balance through contact. Advance bat speed for age, creates whip through the zone, hard contact. 88 mph exit velocity from the tee. Short path with extension, line drive gap to gap guy, athletic hitter. Plays through the ball well in the outfield, athletic actions, clean exchange, soft hands. Arm action is long and loose, high ¾ slot, 84 mph from his crow hop. Athletic delivery on the mound, regular effort, long arm action. Fastball is mostly straight, sat at 81 mph touched 82 mph. Curveball has 12/6 shape, well above average action, excellent depth, 65-68 mph. Changeup missed down, 71-74 mph.
1/20/13 - 5-foot-9, 140-pound right handed outfielder. Defensively shows average actions, two-handed outfield actions, shows some hesitation, arm works long through high ¾ slot (74 mph). Offensively hits from a balanced athletic setup, short stride, lower half works well, drops hands at load, excellent balance throughout, aggressive actions, flat through the zone.
