Up to 95 mph with a high spin fastball, he’s a loose-armed righty with a super quick arm. He gets easy carry to the plate from a high three-quarter slot and shows good feel for power curveball at 81-84 and a fading, tumbling mid-80s changeup. Both pitches have the potential to be above average pitches down the road. He also flashed a promising 90 mph cutter. Peters entered the weekend striking out 18 of the first 41 batters he faced this spring, and left with 22 whiffs out of 46. He’s likely to be considered around the 5th round this summer.
Very athletic RHP showcased an easy arm going 92-94 with the fastball. Slider showed shape and showed plenty of feel with his change up. Verbal commitment to South Carolina.
10-1-2018: Verbal commitment to South Carolina.
9-15-2018: Loose, super quick armed righty with athletic delivery and clean arm action. Good down angle from high three-quarter slot. Threw strikes with more control than command on 92-94 mph FB (spin rate 2450). Firm with good carry to the plate. More thrower than pitcher at this point, yet showed feel for a short, late-breaking CB at 76-78 mph and one tumbling CH at 84 mph. Both have the potential to be above average future pitches. Late bloomer who has the potential to throw even harder in the near future. Struck out six, walked two in two innings pitched. Pro prospect with Day Two draft potential. Transfer from Maryville University, MO.(Seifert)
Committed to South Carolina out of John A. Logan (IL)
Five-foot-10, 155-pound, lean, plenty of room for added strength, two-way prospect. One of the better 2017 right-handed pitchers still uncommitted. Quick, loose arm action from a high ¾ slot, projects. Delivery works with rhythm, slight tuck, coiled at balance point, creates some deception, regular effort, stays in line and closed toe landing. Fastball, thrown for strikes, arm-side-run and flashed sink, sat 85-86 mph. Curveball works 11/5 when best, backed up at times, sharp action, 69-72 mph. Changeup, thrown with near fastball arm speed, arm-side-run action, ranged between 76-79 mph. Also, showed a knuckleball, 71-72 mph. Offensively, right-handed hitter, loose, handsy swing and fluid rhythm throughout. Path works uphill, gap-to-gap approach, 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. Balanced, open setup, smooth pre-pitch load and short leg-lift timing trigger. Defensively, soft hands, athletic fielding position, clean exchange and body control on the infield. Arm works loose, high ¾ slot, throws flashed carry, clocked at 83 mph across the infield. 7.68 runner in the 60. High follow 2017 right-handed pitcher.
