Dynamic center fielder, plays the game with energy and bounce. Defensively, has the range and first step to play center field at the next level; covered a lot of ground multiple times throughout the game. Plays through the baseball, natural outfield actions and strong arm. At the plate, crouched setup, high back elbow, smooth load, gets separation. Stays compact and short to the ball, uses the whole field and strength through contact. Chopped a ball into right field for a single in his first at-bat; thinks two out of the box, made a huge turn around first base before finally slamming on the breaks, 4.54 on the turn. Nuisance on the base paths. High-level 2018 prospect.

7.11.17 - Notre Dame recruit, currently ranked No. 369 overall, No. 11 in Illinois’ 2018 class. 6-foot-2, 195-pound right-handed hitting outfielder, athletic build with proportional strength. Delivered all-around strong performance at the Midwest ProCase. Ran a 6.84 laser-timed 60, moves with confidence, showing true outfield actions. Fields the ball in rhythm, plays through the ball well and has strong, highly accurate arm, firing 90 mph strikes to the catcher. Offensively, has simple, balanced approach. Shows strength in hands with above-average bat speed, repeats swing well, stays strong through contact, consistently back-spinned line drives to the pull side. Registered 99 mph exit velocity with wood.

Future Games 2016 - 6-foot-1, 191-pound right-handed hitting outfielder, athletic build, proportional strength with room for continued physical development. Possesses high-level tools, which he showed during the positional workout when he had one of the top outfield arms at the Future Games (91 mph), ran a 6.93 laser-timed 60, and registered 97-mph exit velocity. Advanced defensive outfielder; moves with fluidity and confidence, gets good reads, aggressive routes, and strong, accurate arm. Offensively, has balanced swing, strong hands, above-average bat speed. Took inconsistent round of BP, but got loose at the end and tanked a pair out to left field. In game, ripped a triple to the right-center gap, moved around the bases well, powerful, athletic strider.

1.17.16 - One of the top outfielders in the 2018 class. Physical, put-together, athletic 6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitter. Defensively, flashed an explosive arm, ball jumps out of his hand and was clocked at 89 mph. Loose arm action from an over-the-top slot. Steady hands, plays through the baseball and clean exchange. Offensively, excellent balance at the plate. Compact swing and creates easy bat speed. Short path, gets extension through contact. Starts from a balanced, crouch setup. Registered an exit velocity of 92 mph. Also, ran a 7.08 laser-timed 60.

7.20.15 - Well-proportioned 6-foot-1, 180-pound projectable right-handed hitting outfielder. Stood out at the event with the combination of tools and overall athleticism he brings to the table. Offensively, he registered a 92 mph exit velocity, well-above average for his age and third highest at the 2018 Prospect Games. Polished hitter, looseness in swing, fast bat speed and sneaky juice. Quick, strong hands, plus balance and extension through contact. Smooth, calm load, gets a lot of separation with his hands pre-pitch. In game two of the event Coetzee smoked a two RBI double and in his next at-bat lined out hard to the third-basemen. Defensively, the right-handed outfielder continued to show off his tools. He was clocked at 89 mph with carry from the outfield. Quick, fluid footwork and a clean exchange. Throws from an over-the-top arm slot and long arm action. One of the top 2018 prospects in the state of Illinois.

4.4.15 - 6-foot, 160-pound lanky and athletic freshman hitting in the cleanup spot for the Bulldogs. Coetzee impressed in center field and at the dish during two games on Saturday. Offensively, hits from a balanced crouch setup, short stride, hands start by ear, barrel lays back, quiet approach. Went 3-for-8 on the day, barreled a hanging curveball to left field for a single, RBI single up the middle, and a two-run homer to center against Rochester. Short path, well above average bat speed for age, up the middle tendencies. Defensively, impressed in center during game one, long, over-the-top arm slot, well above average carry on throws (83 mph last March at Future Prospects Showcase). Coetzee looks to be one of the top 2018 outfield prospects in Illinois and should be a staple in the middle of the lineup for years to come.

3.9.14 - 5-foot-11, 160-pound two-way player with long limbs who projects well. On the mound he has a smooth delivery, strong direction, regular effort. Arm works long and rigid, high ¾ slot. Fastball showed high grade late run and sink action, 73-75 mph, consistent strikes. Curveball was best off speed pitch. True 12/6 shape and late bite, 61-63 mph and in the zone. Throws a straight changeup at 66-69 mph. In the outfield he showed athletic movements, and worked through balls aggressively. Arm works long, over the top, 83 mph with above average carry. Ran a 7.51 60. Hits from a wide, balanced stance, heel lift stride technique, strong lower half usage. Has a gap-to-gap, line drive swing with an uphill path and quick bat speed. Exit velocity was 82 mph off a tee.
