11/10/20

At 6-foot-5, 205 pounds, McDonald is long bodied and athletic. He’s a long strider and an above average runner underway. With defensive versatility and average arm strength that showed improved carry this fall, the big question mark is his bat. With some length to his swing and average bat speed, a good fastball can tie him up on the inner third, but he can mash offspeed mistakes. At times, McDonald has poor pitch selection and moving forward he must develop a better plan at the plate. The future is likely to see his vast athleticism mature into improved skills and performance to go along with his positional versatility, giving him a chance for Day Two draft value in 2021 or beyond.

Interesting, long bodied athlete. He’s a long strider who produces above average speed underway. With average to above arm strength and defensive versatility the big question mark is with his bat. With a longer swing and average bat speed, McDonald has poor pitch selection at times and needs to develop a better plan at the plate.

9.15.17 - Stood out with the bat for the Cangelosi Sparks the first two days of PBR Fall Championship. He has a long, lean and projectable frame at 6-foot-4, 180 pounds. In his first at-bat Saturday, he barreled a triple down the right field line, followed by a line-drive double in the right-center field gap and then a sharp single to center field in his third at-bat. An Illinois recruit, he is tall and relaxed in the box with a simple approach overall. He tracks pitches deep into the hitting zone and stays short through the zone a long time.

7.25.17 - Verbally committed to Illinois.

2.19.17 - 6-foot-4, 180-pound, infielder with a lanky, athletic, projectable frame and plenty of room for continued physical development. Defensively, fluid footwork, plays light on his toes, maintains body control on the move, athletic fielding position, steady hands and clean transfer. Loose, quick, athletic arm action, throws carry and clocked at 87 mph across the diamond. Offensively, open, tall setup, smooth load, short leg-lift timing trigger and maintains balance through contact. Loose hands, flashed bat speed and a gap-to-gap approach. 86 mph exit velocity from a tee. Also, ran a 7.28 laser-timed 60.

8/1/16- 6-foot-3, 165-pound right-handed hitting infielder. #66 ranked player in IL 2018 class. Tall lean build with projection. 7.39 runner. Shoulder load, knee to knee trigger, compact swing, strides across body, locks off lower half, short to contact, works middle of field, avg. contact, 86 mph exit velocity. Above avg. carry and accuracy to bag, 85 mph arm strength, plays with actions, shows ability to throw from multiple angles, glove and feet work.
