The top ranked player in Illinois and No. 15 in the country, OF Carver Cohn (McHenry, 2028) continues to impress in front of our staff. He has a switch-hitting profile with an extremely athletic look from both sides, boasting lean strength and twitch to help create exit velocities around the 100 mph mark. He also does a good job of creating length through the zone with whip in the barrel. Cohn also continued to show to be a high-level defender at the event; playing with confident actions, athletic footwork and range, paired with a very strong arm that was accurate at 88 mph. 6.95 runner in the 60.
2/19/25
One of the top players in the entire 2028 class, OF Carver Cohn (McHenry) gave one of his strongest looks to date. Currently slotted at No. 15 in the country and No. 1 in Illinois, Cohn is an extremely toolsy and athletic prospect that we expect to stick at the top of the class as he moves through the high school ranks. Listed at 5-foot-9, 161-pounds with lean strength and plenty more to come, Cohn got his event started with a 3.83 in the 30-yard dash - and he’s been down to a 6.97 in the past for the 60. He’s a true switch-hitter with feel to hit from both sides, showing impressive strength and athleticism with a 100 mph EV from the right side and 99 mph EV from the left. He has a similar operation from both sides, showing feel for the barrel with a path that stays through the zone, also hitting routinely in front of our staff in-game. Cohn continued to look the part of a top player in the class with his defensive workout; showing athletic footwork and natural actions for the position, while also reaching 86 mph with lively arm action that could have more in the tank moving forward.
9/20/24
Cohn would continue to cement himself as one of the best players in Illinois’ emerging 2028 class on Saturday as he performed well across two games. In game 1, Cohn would go 1-for-3, with a double from the left side. In game 2, he would go 1-for-2 with an inside-the-park home run from the right side. A recent attendee of the 2024 Junior Future Games, the switch-hitter showed a line-to-line approach that translated on both sides of the plate. In setup, he presents similar looks from both the left & right side, with an upright slightly-open stance & a swing that plays heavily on his loose, quick hands. Defensively, the outfielder would show rangy actions with advanced routes for his age. The McHenry product’s athleticism and gritty gameplay would stand out consistently, making his profile even more interesting. 5-foot-9, 160-pound frame.
8/14/24
OF/LHP Carver Cohn (McHenry) is a toolsy left/left prospect that showed well for Team Illinois. He has above-average tools that he uses to his advantage, boasting a 6.97 in the 60 that allows him to cover all sorts of ground in the outfield as well as take extra bases with ease. His arm is plenty strong, reaching up to 84 mph from a crow hop and 83 mph on the mound. He is a tough out at the plate, consistently fighting deep into counts while looking to keep the ball on a line to the gaps - finishing his week 4-for-7 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored. There is much more to tap into as he matures throughout high school, and all the clay is there for a high-level prospect.
6/10/24
Cohn, coming in at an athletic and agile 5-foot-7, 150-pound frame, had an outstanding weekend going 6-for-8 at the plate with three doubles, a triple, three walks, and 3 RBIs. He mostly swung it from the left side this weekend but the few at-bats where he did swing right-handed he looked very comfortable; roping the ball down the foul line in an at-bat where he would eventually walk. He displayed strong bat-to-ball skills and was able to hit the ball to all sides of the field. On the defensive side, he demonstrated an ability to track down fly balls and was able to showcase his strong arm from the outfield multiple times this weekend. He also showed his potential on the mound this weekend, showcasing his loose and whippy arm action on the mound sitting 80-82 mph with his fastball and 68-69 mph with his slider. Cohn is certainly an intriguing prospect and will certainly be one to follow for the future.
