Northwestern football commit. 6-foot-4, 225-pound, extra-large, imposing, right-handed hitting first baseman. Took impressive at-bats all day long. Got a fastball down in the zone, in his second at-bat and lined a solo home run to center field (380 foot fence). Flew out to the warning track in center field in his first at-bat of the day. In his final at-bat, took a curveball and squared it up right at the third baseman for a line-out. Impressive plate awareness and pitch recognition throughout. Did not chase out of the zone and recognized off-speed. Compact, short, quick swing with advanced strength through contact. Defensively, feel around the bag at first base. Moves well for size, soft, receptive hands and routinely picked throws out of the dirt.
4.8.17 - Committed to play football at Northwestern. Currently ranked No. 77 in the Illinois’ 2018 class. 6-foot-4, 225-pound, extra-large, strong, athletically built, imposing first baseman. Offensively, right-handed hitter, makes the bat look small in his hands, raw strength and present pull power. Launched a two-run home run in his first at-bat to deep left-center field. Finished the day 1-for-3 with a walk. Defensively, feet work fluidly for his size. Has feel around the bag and provides a big target at first base.

1.17.16 - 6-foot-4, 225-pound, right-handed hitting first baseman with a strong, mature frame. Offensively hits from a balanced setup. Short leg lift stride with a long, uphill swing path. Gap to gap hitter with a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.59. Defensively has a long arm action from an over the top arm slot. Athletic fielder with fluid footwork and a long exchange. Threw 77 mph across the infield.
1.18.15 - Hulking 6-foot-4, 220-pound right-handed hitting RHP/1B hits from a crouched, open setup, wide base, leg kick stride, some stiffness but big time power potential, in short, slightly uphill bat path, 88 mph exit velocity off the tee, power to his pull side. Defensively, threw 71 mph across the diamond from short, high ¾ arm slot, soft hands fielding, fluid footwork around the bag, feel for turning the double play. Ran a 7.47 60. On the mound fastball sat 77-79 mph from short, quick, loose, high ¾ arm slot, tall/fall delivery, downhill shoulders, stride direction in line with home plate. 12/6 curveball sat 65-66 mph, also threw 67-68 mph changeup with fading action. Mangieri is perhaps the most physical 2018 prospect in Illinois, and should see significant recruiting interest in both baseball and football.
