USA CNT TRIALS: Another breakout star as a sophomore this spring, Olson posted a 2.86 ERA and a 65-16 K-BB mark in 66 innings for the Cornhuskers. He got hit around in his lone two-inning appearance for Team USA, but he still showed plenty of potential, with the makings of a four-pitch arsenal and good arm strength. Olson certainly looks the part of an innings eater at 6-foot-4, 230 pounds. His delivery has some funk and features a very high leg lift, and he works downhill from a high slot. Olson’s fastball ranged from 91-94 and sat mostly 92-93 in our look, with low two-seam spin rates in the 1800s-1900s. His changeup was inconsistent but flashed above-average potential, serving as the strikeout pitch against blue-chip righties Dylan Crews and Brock Wilken. His 81-82 slider was mostly fringy but flashed average, and he also showed a below-average curveball in the mid-70s. Overall, it’s a nice pitch package and a great frame, making Olson an intriguing prospect who could make a jump up boards with a strong junior year.
9/17/19
Verbally committed to Nebraska.
7/25/19
The uncommitted Olson showed a three-pitch feel, working comfortably at 81-84 mph and consistently reaching for 86 mph with two strikes, even an 88 mph in the fourth. Olson's curveball plays with depth on a 1/7 plane, 66-67 mph, and showed excellent confidence with feel for a 73-74 mph changeup that he did not waver from throwing behind in counts. Changeup played as best secondary, deceptive arm speed, feel and action.
8/09/18
6-foot-4, 210-pound left-handed pitcher, large frame and build. Tall and fall delivery, maintains balance, in rhythm. Arm action is short out of a tight over the top window. Fastball has feel for the zone, above average control, 78-80 mph, touched 81 mph. Curveball has 1/7 shape, 60-62 mph. Changeup fades, occasional decel, 63-65 mph.
2/18/18
6-foot-4, 210-pound, extra-large, left-handed pitcher. Tall and fall delivery, works on-line, lands square and recoils on finish. Short, loose, quick arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fastball, straight action, sat 81-82 mph. Curveball, 1/7 shape, depth at times, 61-67 mph. Changeup, lowers arm slot, 70-73 mph.
6/07/17
6-foot-2, 210-pound left-handed two-way player. On the mound works from a high ¾ slot, shorter loose arm action. High front side, feel for delivery, finishes third base side. Fastball is mostly straight, 77-79 mph. Curveball acts 1/7, up at times, 58-59 mph. Knuckleball sat 57-60 mph. Offensively hits from a tall open stance, short stride with average balance. Occasional easy pop to pull side, path has length, mostly level, 84 mph exit velocity from the tee. 8.87 runner in the 60. Showed feel around the bag, average hands, 70 mph across the diamond.
