6/26/13- Using a strong lower half, the 6-foot-3, 225-pound Jelley showed ability to command three pitches on the mound, with a good mound presence and repeatable mechanics. Coming from a high ¾ arm slot, Jelley’s heavy fastball topped at 86-mph with late arm side action. He also displayed a sharp, late breaking 11-to-5 breaking ball (66-69 mph) thrown with near fastball arm speed as well as a 69-72 mph change up down in the zone with arm side run.
2/17/13 - Jelley hails from a small school in southern Illinois, but the 6-foot-3, 220-pound right-hander showed one of the biggest arms at the event. Mechanically sound with a clean, easy and balanced delivery, Jelley fired consistent fastballs at 87 mph, topping at 88, from a high-3/4 slot. Moreover, he pounded the strike zone with his three-pitch mix, though his secondary stuff still needs refinement. Nevertheless, he showed feel for everything. His changeup, in the 67-70 range, showed flashes of arm side sink. He also threw a slower 63-66 mph curveball. Certainly Jelley’s performance should attract plenty of colleges to Zeigler-Royalton this spring. GPS is recommended.
Emerging as a prospect to pay close attention to in Southern Illinois. Up to 87 in the fall of his junior year, with developing secondary stuff.
