Northern Illinois signee, RHP Jack Olson (Antioch) continues to add strength to his now 6-foot-3, 212-pound frame. A simple and athletic delivery on the mound, Olson’s fastball sits 88-90 mph with ease, topping out at 91.3 mph in our looks. Spinning both a slider and a curveball, Olson’s curveball sits in the low-70s with an average of -13.1 inches of horizontal movement, and his slider sits 72-74 mph with an average of 2,259 RPM. He rounds out his four-pitch mix with a mid-70s changeup that has an average of 15.7 inches of horizontal movement.

Olson provided a quality look in his start for PBA on Friday. Listed at an upside 6-foot-3, 190-pounds, Olson is a clean and athletic mover on the bump, pairing it with a quick arm that topped at 90, and sat in the high-80s throughout. As for his offspeeds, both his 11/5 curveball and tightly spun slider did flash some out-pitch potential. He rounded out his four-pitch mix with a changeup that offered a change of pace option, and it played with fade/depth.

During our time in Kenosha RHP/OF Jack Olson (Antioch, IL, 2024) put together arguably the top performance of the day. At first glance, Olson looks to have gained some muscle mass to his athletic 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame, which seems to have helped him across many aspects of the game, starting offensively. Olson kicked off the event with a bang during the BP portion as he registered two 100+ mph EVs, with his hardest coming off at 101.6 mph and he averaged 92.8 mph. In the left-handed box, Olson works with rhythm, calmly toe-tapping into his load before delivering the barrel with controlled aggression. He then moved over to the outfield defense portion where his innate arm strength and athleticism were on full display as he topped at 89 mph on his hardest bullet from the outfield. This arm strength definitely transfers over to the mound as he recorded the highest fastball velocity of the event at 90.9 mph, which was roughly seven mph harder than he threw at this same event last year. On the mound, Olson is an athletic and clean mover, working downhill with tempo. As for his offspeeds, he was able to land all three secondaries for strikes, the first being a big two-plane breaking curveball for strikes. He also was able to spin in a handful of quality sliders that featured more horizontal movement than the curveball and with more velocity. His final offering to round out his four-pitch mix was a changeup that was sold well and featured late run/fade.

Olson is a long levered two-way player, listed at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, and he put together arguably the best performance of the day, regardless of class. In the left-handed batter’s box, Olson stood wide and balanced with a stock hand set. Throughout his BP round, you’d get the impression he understands how to repeat backspin line drives with leverage to the pull side. He stayed grounded throughout his swings and gave a tough-to-get-off-balance appearance to his operation. Olson reached an 87 mph high to home from the outfield, and that arm strength translated even greater on the mound. There, the Antioch sophomore delivered from a high ¾ slot with a stacked in line and athletic mound move – utilizing a long loop and loose action. The fastball occasionally cut, reaching an 84 mph high, and his curveball showed some vertical depth while spinning at nearly 2,400 rpm on average. Olson came away as arguably the day’s biggest winner, showcasing to our scouts a relatively high ceiling on both sides of the ball.

Olson is a lean 6-foot-1, 160-pound right-hander with a clean arm action that projects well on the mound. He topped at 81 mph with a true four seam fastball and showed two above average off speed offerings. He has depth and above-average spin for his age on a 62-64 mph curveball, along with excellent feel on a deceptive fading changeup.
