Augustana commit. Currently ranked No. 217 in the class of 2023. Stands at a strong and athletic 5-foot-10, 185-pounds. Buckalew gives Monticello a quality one-two punch between Luke Teschke (Illinois State; 2024) and himself. Showed confidence on the mound working with quick pace at times. Simple delivery, high leg lift into drop and drive delivery, toe lands square. Short, compact, clean arm out of high ¾ slot. Fastball sat 83-84 mph with arm-side fade. Curveball sat 69-71 mph with 11/5 shape, quality spin (2,290 rpm), can land at the bottom of the zone, swing-and-miss pitch.
