Heartland Scout Day: Athletic, two-way talent at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds. On the bump Kampf is a high slot righty with a downhill delivery and clean arm action. Lower effort. Lands slightly cross body. Ran his fastball up to 90 mph, sitting mostly at 88 with good down plane. Potential for average curve ball, currently 75-77 mph and 12/6 rotation. Struggled on this look to finish out front for depth, but feel to spin, velo and control are there. Could develop into good complement to his riding heater. Good feel for straight change, consistently down in the zone to his armside at 80-81 mph. Overall, showed a good feel to manipulate the baseball into three distincts pitches.
Uncommitted, currently ranked No. 90 in the Illinois’ 2020 class. 6-foot-2, 170-pound, long, athletically-built, right-handed pitcher. Started on the mound in Friday’s afternoon game. Clean, easy, athletic delivery. Arm is compact and uninterrupted out of a high ¾ slot. Fastball comes out of his hand clean, around the zone, mostly straight, sat 84-88 mph early on. Mixed in an 11/5 curveball with depth at times at 73-74 mph. Uncommitted 2020 arm to follow moving forward.
Uncommitted junior. Currently ranked No. 82 in the Illinois’ 2020 class. 6-foot-2, 170-pound, right-handed pitcher, lean build; plenty of room for continued physical development. Started on the mound, clean, easy arm action, works out of a high ¾ slot. Fastball velocity has ticked up considerably from earlier this spring when he sat 80-84 mph in an outing. Fastball comes out easy, slight arm-side-run, average command, sat 86-88 mph, touched 89 in his first two innings of work. Consistently went to his curveball, inconsistent action and shape, mostly 11/5, flashed depth and bite, 74-76 mph. Went three innings, scattered four hits, three runs, none earned, struck out four and walked two. Follow 2020 uncommitted arm.
6-foot-2, 170-pound, long, projectable, two-way prospect. Started at third base and also came on to pitch in relief. Offensively, right-handed hitter, loose hands and stays on top of the baseball. Reached base in all four plate appearances. Finished 3-for-3 with an RBI, two runs scored and an HBP. Came on in the seventh inning to pitch. Clean, loose arm action, minimal effort. Fastball comes out of the hand clean and easy, sat 80-84 mph. Struck out the side in his one inning of work.
2.18.19 - 6-foot-2, 170-pound, two-way prospect; lean, athletic build. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, slow-paced, smooth, athletic, repeatable delivery. Clean arm action, works looks and quick from a high ¾ slot. Fastball, arm-side-run, thrown for strikes, sat 83-84 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, thrown for strikes, 71-72 mph. Changeup, occasional fade, feel, 76-78 mph. At the plate, right-handed hitter, open tall setup, long stride works back to square. Loose, athletic hands, flat bat path, line-drive pull approach and fluid rhythm; 88 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, steady hands, winds up on release. Loose, quick arm action and plus arm across the diamond; topped at 91 mph across the infield. 7.56 runner in the 60, laser-timed.
2/10/19 - 6-foot-2, 170-pound right-handed pitcher, slender lanky frame, loose levers. Tall and fall delivery, works on line, lands square, in rhythm and on time, ability to repeat. Clean arm action, live and loose, above average arm speed, high ¾ slot. Fastball jumps out of the hand at times, good feel and above average life in the zone, 84-86 mph. Curveball is sharp, tight depth and shape, 12/6 plane, showed ability to drop for strikes, 71-72 mph. Changeup sinks to arm side, 78-81 mph.
