Lockport Preseason I.D.: Pitcher Analysis
April 12, 2019
On Feb. 18, the PBR Illinois staff made its way back to Bo Jackson’s Elite Sports Dome in Lockport, the site of the annual Lockport Preseason I.D. showcase. Every year, this event is one of the most heavily attended on our showcase calendar, with 200 prospects in attendance this time around.
We began the instant analysis of the Lockport Preseason I.D. a few weeks ago with our Quick Hits post and our Statistical Analysis. We continued our event rollout this week with each positional analysis (C, OF, INF) and today we dissect the 80+ pitchers in attendance.
A pair of Minooka arms claimed two of the top three spots in Scott Harper (2020) and Johnathan Forneris (2020) giving the Indians promise at the top of their rotation for the rest of this season and into 2020. Harper and Forneris both sport loose and live arm actions running their heaters up to 88 mph.
Nolan Vlcek (Lockport, 2020) took home the number two spot showcasing a feel for three offerings with a fastball touching 87 mph. He possesses a highly athletic delivery, a short and loose arm action with present arm speed that will bode well moving forward as he continues to hone in on his craft.
Brady Young (Hampshire, 2021) and Ysen Useni (Maine South, 2022) are the first two underclassmen to crack the top ranks. Young is an uber athletic right-hander with a live arm action pushing his heater up to 87 mph showing the ability to spin a plus breaker. Useni has an advanced frame and repertoire for a freshman and oozes upside on the dirt circle.
