Illinois Lockport Preseason I.D.: Top Overall Prospects

By Illinois Scouting Staff

Today, we wrap up our post-event analysis from the Lockport Preseason I.D. back in February by examining the showcase’s top overall prospects, separated by class. With so much talent to sift through, it was these names below that managed to stand out at the event.

Senior C Jason Volpe (Lakes Community) is still uncommitted and shouldn’t be for long. A physical framed backstop, Volpe has present bat strength from the left side of the plate and looks to damage the baseball.

Of the 2020s, OF Jake Donahue (Plainfield Central) INF Anthony Fornero (Lemont) and INF Jimmy Rybarczyk (Sandburg) were three positional players that opened eyes on both sides of the ball. Two additional 2020s in Scott Harper (Minooka) and Nolan Vlcek (Lockport) both impressed on the mound showcasing their multi-pitch repertoires and lively heaters.

Brady Young (Hampshire) burst onto the scene as a high-follow 2021 with an upper-80’s fastball and tight spinning breaker. Right behind him is another high-follow ‘21 in switch-hitting Ben Hartl (Springfield) who showcased multi-positional abilities with sound fundamentals through and through.

Of the multiple impressive performances from the 2022 prospects, Ysen Useni (Maine South) has perhaps the most upside of them all. An advanced framed RHP, Useni already pitches with composure and moxy with a pitch-mix that makes him yet another high-follow underclassman from this rich-in-talent event.
