5/6/14 - Currently ranked No. 110 in Illinois’ 2015 class. Two-year impact player, hits leadoff for team. Thin 5-foot-11, 165-pound frame, went 3-for-4 with a homer to lead off seventh inning and a double on Wednesday. Both hits were pulled to left field. Also scored three runs and plays a steady defensive shortstop. Makes all the plays, athletic arm action, some effort in the throw, average arm strength. Ran a 4.48 home to first.
9-20-2018: Sure handed middle infielder with a quick release and near average arm strength. Quick arm action from a low three-quarter release. Line drive swing. Tended to hit off his front foot, especially during batting practice, looking to pull the ball. More balanced during the game. Below average runner down the line. Although he lacks the desired plus arm strength and run speed tools, Govern makes up for much of it with instincts and grit. He looks to have all the intangibles. Expect Govern to receive strong consideration as a later round senior pick this June. (Seifert)
