Uncommitted. Vaughn continued his dominant spring campaign with another impressive performance on the mound. He fired a perfect game in the Tigers 10-0 win over Peoria Heights, tallying 13 strikeouts in the outing. He threw 56 pitches with 47 of them being strikes (84%).
Week 3: Vaughn threw seven innings, struck out 20 hitters, and only allowed two hits, earning himself a mention within the Week 3 Diamond Notes.
Uncommitted. Stands at an athletic 5-foot-11, 170-pounds with room to fill. Vaughn threw seven innings, struck out 12, walked two, allowed no runs, and one hit. The only hit allowed came in the bottom of the seventh inning. Worked at a quick pace throughout the game, attacking hitters with the fastball early on in the count, and pounded the zone for strikes (74%). Mostly threw fastballs in this outing that flashed arm-side run, the pitch was mostly effective when he started it in the middle part of the zone and let it run to the inside part of the plate to a right-handed hitter. Fastball sat 86-88 mph, topped out at 89 mph. Slider sat 73-76 mph with 10/4 sweeping shape, showed swing-and-miss potential. Another impressive look at one of the top uncommitted arms in Illinois’ class of 2024.
Uncommitted. The athletic right-handed pitcher was impressive in his win against Brimfield. He worked quick and pounded the zone for strikes. In seven innings of work, Vaughn struck out 20 hitters, only allowing two hits on the day. His fastball sat 85-87 mph, topping out at 88 mph. His slider sat 74-76 mph with sweeping actions.
Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed pitcher with a well-proportioned frame and room for continued development. Vaughn got the start and turned in a complete game, shutout while striking out 20, scattering two hits and no walks. He also batted leadoff, going 1-for-4 with an RBI in their 6-0 win. On the mound, showed a confident presence, worked quick and stayed in control of the game. Simple, low effort, repeatable delivery, medium leg-lift with tuck, tall and fall delivery, works in-line to the plate. Long, loose, quick arm out of a low ¾ slot. Pounded the zone with strikes (79%) with both his fastball and slider, attacked hitters inside and out with both pitches. Fastball sat 85-87 mph, topped out at 88 mph with arm-side run, resulted in swing-and-misses, spin rate was in the 2,200 RPM range. Settled in at 84-86 mph, touching 87 mph on the last pitch of the game (91 total pitches). Slider sat 74-76 mph with 10/4 shape, quick, late bite, swing-and-miss pitch. Impressive start by the uncommitted junior that should put him in the running for the upcoming Pitcher of the Week award.
Another 90 mph arm came from Illini Bluffs RHP Joshua Vaughn (2024). At 5-foot-11, 170-pounds he possesses a loose whippy arm out of a ¾ slot that generates action to his arm side. Vaugn also lands a slider with 10/4 shape at 73-75 mph.
