9.16.18 - University of Illinois commit, currently ranked No. 53 in Illinois 2019 class. 6-foot-3, 250-pound, left-handed hitting, right-handed throwing first baseman, durable build with present in-game athleticism for XL frame. Plays game with confidence. Open setup, leg kicks to even, attacks the baseball. Short to the location of the pitch, definite plate coverage and bat strength, uphill path with rhythm through contact, gap to gap approach. Lined a single to center and took second on a throw to third, high motor and drive. Also, pulled a double down the right field line, gets the barrel head out ahead in counts. Defensively, comfortable around the bag, quick feet, soft hands, works up and through the baseball on dirt ball picks.
5.4.18 - Illinois commit. Currently ranked No. 58 in the Illinois’ 2019 class. 6-foot-3, 250-pound, left handed-hitting, big-bodied, two-way player. Present lower half strength. Started at first base and hit third for the Redhawks showing well on all sides of the ball. Defensively, comfortable around the bag, steady footwork, soft hands, picks the ball well and receives with rhythm. Offensively, hits from an open stance, feel for the zone with present bat speed, natural uphill bat path and uses the whole field. Laced an opposite field two-run single, which he legged out to second on the overthrow to home. In his next at-bat, Janas turned on a 86 mph fastball and drove a three-run triple deep to the pull-side gap. Also, came out of the bullpen and threw 4.2 innings of scoreless baseball in relief for Marist. Right-handed pitcher, threw strikes with two pitches (FB/CB). Simple leg up and down delivery, works in line, repeated; changed his leg-lift and tempo to throw off hitters timing. Fastball had run, played 79-81. Curveball ranged 65-70 mph.
5.17.17 - 6-foot-1, 220-pound, left-handed hitting, first baseman, present strength, wide shoulders, thick chest and strong lower half. Moves well at first base, showed range and soft hands. Offensively, advanced approach at the plate for age. Very patient at the plate, knowledge of the strike zone and sees a lot of pitches will take his walks. Walked three times and lined a ball right at the left fielder. Open, upright, quiet setup with rhythm. Soft stride, minimal head movement, closes off to load and has a short, quick swing. Potential power bat. Follow 2019 hitter.
