Verbally committed to Kentucky. Physically impressive 6-foot-3, 220-pound frame, advanced lower half and wide shoulders. Moves well for size and strength (plays shortstop when not pitching). Looks like a college junior in uniform. Right-hander dominated small-school competition, leading team to third-place finish in Class 1A. Posted 11-1 record with 0.52 ERA. Notched 136 strikeouts to 26 walks in 73 innings. In 1A third-place game, McHood worked entirely out of the stretch. His fastball sat primarily 85-87 mph with heavy finish and late arm-side sink. Legitimate sources say he has been in the 89-91 range in past, which isn’t surprising. Works between high-3/4 and 3/4 arm slot, longer arm action. Shows athleticism in delivery and repeats well. Throws slider consistently for strikes, in 74-76 range. Slider shows potential to become big swing-and-miss pitch at next level when thrown harder. Also flashed firm 77-79 mph changeup. Facing inferior competition, he carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but was removed from game after walking two batters in seventh. Finished with 11 Ks, 5 walks and one hit.
