Uncommitted. Is a physical right-hander hitting catcher standing at 6-foot-1, 215-pounds with strength throughout the frame. At the plate, Mardis is strong at the point of contact with strong wrists and forearms that deliver a powerful barrel to the baseball, averaging 94.3 mph off the bat with a max of 104.3 mph. Mardis showed feel to consistently elevate the baseball, driving the ball on a line and in the air to the pull side often. Defensively behind the plate, Mardis is a reliable defender with some arm strength up to 77 mph from the crouch.

Listed at a physical 6-foot-1, 215-pounds with present strength throughout and round shoulders. Mardis took a loud round of BP from the right side, reaching up to 100.3 mph for his max EV with a max distance of 380’. Quick, strong hands at the plate, uses the middle of the field while showing power to his pull-side with a home run. Clean catch/throw behind the plate, reaching as low as 2.00 for his pop-time while topping out at 74 mph from the chute. 7.04 runner in the 60.

Power: 97.3 max exit velocity, averaged 91.3 mph. 348’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 72 mph. Short arm action, high 3/4 arm slot.
Defense: 2.14 - 2.26 pop times. Receptive hands. Clean exchange.

Yet another potent right-handed bat to keep tabs on in the 2023 class belongs to C Nick Mardis (Bloomington Central). The 6-foot-1, 205-pound, broad-chested, wide-shouldered Mardis oozed physicality in the box and was on the barrel with authority, averaging a 91.3 mph exit velocity during BP, second best of the event. Mardis stays quiet pre-pitch with his hands set in a strong hitting position and stays direct to the baseball with uphill tendencies. Mardis launched a number of balls over 300 feet, and his best landed at an estimated 348 feet from home.

Body: 6-foot, 202-pounds. Physical, well-proportioned frame.
Delivery: Tall/fall type delivery, high front side, front toe lands closed, athletic finish through release.
Arm Action: RH. Long arm action, over-the-top slot.
FB: T78, 76-78 mph. Played with arm-side run. Strikes down in the zone.
CB: 61-64 mph. 12/6 shape with some depth. Breaks early.
CH: 67-69 mph. Slight deceleration in arm speed, plays straight. 

Hit: RHH. Wide setup, quiet hand load and short stride. Repeatable swing, direct path, level through the zone, consistent hard contact with ability to backspin the baseball.
Power: 91 mph exit velocity from the tee. Ball jumps off the barrel at times.
