3/05/26

5-foot-10, 162-pound, loose-bodied left-hander seems to be yet another arm in attendance where the future is extremely bright. Mehrten has a loose, whippy arm and got a bunch of late arm-side-action to his 84-86 mph fastball; averaging 18.5” HM. His slider working on a horizontal plane going the opposite direction of his fastball at 69-73 mph; average 19.1 average HM which matches his slot (4.7’ release height) well. The changeup, like the fastball, gets all kinds of arm-side movement at 72-74 mph. Given his pitch profiles, loose arm and projectable frame Mehrtens features all kinds of intrigue and will be a name to see this spring/summer.

LHP/OF Tyler Mehrtens (Highland, 2028) impressed our staff both on the mound and as a position player at this event. He’s a projectable athlete with long, wiry levers at 5-foot-10, 146-pounds. It’s a quick operation on the mound, working his fastball up to 81 mph with some arm-side action. His slider looked like his best off-speed offering, sitting in the mid-to-upper-60s with 1/7 shape and averaging 18.3 inches of horizontal movement. To round out his three-pitch mix, Mehrtens mixed in a change-up in the mid-70s with clear fade. Mehrtens started off the event posting a 6.86 60-yd time. At the plate, the left-handed hitter operates from a tall stance with a small stride. Compact swing with a gap-to-gap approach. Mehrtens posted a max batted ball distance of 348 feet, while having a max exit velocity of 92.6 mph. Mehrtens is a name to know in the ‘28 class.
