8/17/14 - Cairns is a strong 5-foot-11, 185-pound right-handed pitcher.  Starts with short rocker step, tall balance point, strides inline to slightly open, three-quarters arm slot, quick arm, athletic finish.  Plus body control throughout delivery.  Fastball had late arm side run, glove side fastballs cut, 82-85 mph.  Feel for a short, late breaking slider, 74-75 mph.  Near fastball arm speed on change-up, arm side fading movement, 73-74 mph.  Showed command of three pitches, all with proper shape and late movement.
8/6/14 - Cairns is a sturdy 5-foot-11, 185-pound right-handed pitcher.  Deliberate, balanced delivery, tall balance point, strides slightly open, athletic finish, three quarters arm action.  Fastball clocked 80-84 mph, arm side run.  Breaking ball with 11/5 shape, 68-72 mph.  Change-up runs arm side, 70-73.  Retired all four batters he faced in the game, three strikeouts.  10/16 strikes.
8/6/14 - Cairns is a 5-foot-11, 185-pound right-hand hitting catcher.  During batting practice Cairns showed a tall set-up, open stance, strides slightly open and has a smooth hand load.  Bat path is level, finishes with extension, maintains balance throughout, has some bat speed and an upper half dominant swing with a slight pull approach.  Top exit velocity clocked at 84 mph.  In the game had one hit and ran a 4.62 home to first base.  Throwing to second base during defensive work showed fluid footwork and short, quick, high three quarters arm action, top throw clocked at 73 mph with pop times in the 2.05-2.16 range.  Showed a very accurate arm, putting four throws in a row on the inside of the bag.
