8/22/22

At fourth in this update, RHP/OF Tyler Wood (Lee’s Summit West, 2025) is a power arm in this class of note. The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder has one of the quickest arms in the state, pumping his fastball at 87-90 mph at Creekside this summer, exploding into the upper-quadrant of the zone and profiling as a swing-and-miss heater at the next level. Wood will rip off a mid-70s slider in conjunction with his fastball - a pitch he throws at arm speed with lateral spin from a similar slot. He’s a formidable follow as a position player as well, roaming the outfield with confidence and performing at the plate during his stretch at Creekside, too. Similarly to his counterparts at the top of this board, Wood’s upside on the diamond is fairly high and he appears to just be scratching the surface of what he can be.

9/12/21

Positional Profile: OF/RHP

Body: 6-foot-3, 175-pound athletic and projectable frame with present strength

Hit: RHH.  At the plate starts with a slightly open stance and an upright posture.  Hands get set slightly above shoulder height with a 45 degree bat angle.  Rotational path with the hands and slight uphill bat path.  Hits with good leverage and shows real strength at contact.  Has extremely quick hands through the zone and shows good overall bat speed.  Strong rotational acceleration metrics and does a good job of matching plane with the pitch.

Power:  96 mph exit velocity in BP.

Arm: RH.  OF-90 mph. High ¾ arm slot with a clean and quick arm action.

Defense: In the outfield attacks the ball with controlled rhythm and smooth footwork.  Fields the ball on the outside of the glove side leg with glove action and soft hands.  Utilizes a quick shuffle crow hop technique with good momentum and very good carry to the target.

Run: 6.76 runner in the 60.

Delivery: On the mound uses a short rocker style delivery with an up tempo pace working to a high balance point.  Strong weight stack onto the back leg with short push off the rubber.  Aggressive rhythm with the delivery after the balance point.  Maintains athleticism throughout.  Works from the middle of the rubber and strides directionally down the center of the mound with strong rotation off the plant foot.

Arm Action: High ¾ arm slot with a clean arm action.

FB: 83-87 mph, strong riding life through the top of the zone with strong spin metrics.

SL: 61-64 mph, shorter shape than CB with some late horizontal break.

CB: 65 mph, heavy east/west shape with some downward depth late.

CH: 74-77 mph, good fading action with fastball hand speed.
