Duncan Mathews: Jackson Prep High School, Class of 2023; 5-foot-6, 140-pound; C/2B. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 71 mph. Began in athletic stance, had a wrapping load and used a leg kick right before his swing. Exhibits quick bat speed and an upward swing plane, and he ends his swing with good extension on his finish. His best position velocity while throwing to second was registered at 68 mph; showed quick footwork, a clean exchange and sure hands. While in the infield, recorded position velocities up to 67 mph. While catching, his pop time was registered at 2.00-2.40; Showing consistent accuracy to the bag, he had a short arm action and a high ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 8.14.
Uses a leg kick at the plate with an advanced bat path. Good footwork and quick release behind the plate with advanced blocking skills. As he advances physically, his throws should get better than the 2.1 he throws currently.
Clean receiving the ball, good actions throwing the second.
